Empty Wallet -> SWEET!!! (5/10/2008 8:01:41 PM)

Just took my new Belt out for its maiden flight. Took about 3 hours to adjust and tweek everything on the bird and then set up the radio. (copied setings from another post. Thanks Zim!) 2 clicks left aleron, 1 click forward pitch and it hovers rock solid. [8D]
Now if only I actually knew how to fly the thing or had a clue what this new DX6I is really capable of, I would be in great shape. [X(][X(]

nuttcaze -> RE: SWEET!!! (5/10/2008 8:09:24 PM)

BE VERY CAREFUL not to accidentally hit the selection for plane/heli it will erase all the settings for that heli, best to copy those settings to another model too, just in case, thats what happened to me when trying to set up my ES600 (E-Smart)

Empty Wallet -> RE: SWEET!!! (5/10/2008 8:21:13 PM)

You would think a good spectrum rep would be smart enough to post a detailed explaination on these forums as to what you can really do with their radios. He could be available to answer some question now and then and maybe take care of some customer service issuses too. It would make a whole lot of difference as to what equipment the folks around here would want to spend their money on

nuttcaze -> RE: SWEET!!! (5/10/2008 8:37:29 PM)

hahahahahahahahahahaha

Funny, you wanted good customer service, lol, srry but not happening, they'd rather you figure it out for yourself [:'(]

DumbDawg -> RE: SWEET!!! (5/10/2008 9:32:13 PM)

heh lol Like nutt says... customer service??? Thats kinda funny. For only $140 - 200 dinaro you want customer service or a manual thats ACTUALLY useful and explanatory??? NOT!!!!

Its an adventure to try and figure out or try to interpret what these things are all about. Its usually use noobs that ask a plethora of questions that things get answered... But unfortunately scattered all thru out the forums so its still and adventure to find all the answers.

If I had a camcorder I'd make a vid but I don't. Maybe I'll find the time some day soon to go thru and rehash all the info into one post... I said maybe!!! :) Time is always the issue isn't it.

Anyway... Thx guyz for the start... At least there are some good starting points now.

Happy fly'n Which means don't wait for the rep... they certainly won't show so go fly instead.

Zimatosa -> RE: SWEET!!! (5/10/2008 9:41:33 PM)

What about their DX7 though. I don't stick those in the cheap radio list.....You still don't see anyone from Spektrum trying to solve programming issuse for the owners of those radios either. Spektrum is just the low radios on JR's totem pole....

If you go to youtube, you can find a video put out by Spektrum, done by some dorky guy that doesn't seem to know much either. I think the video was filmed in one take with mistakes!

Thanks to the heli lord for giving us this forum...:)

Yeah. Right. What was I thinking.
Spend all that time money and effort to research, design, build and market the thing, but yet be too stupid to raise the price $5 to include a decent manual so you could actually use it.
Silly me

N1pster -> RE: SWEET!!! (5/10/2008 10:13:52 PM)

Are the Spectrums really that bad? WOW.
I use a Hitec Eclipse 7 (OK it's not 2.4) but is everybit as capable as a DX. I needed an answer regarding Expo, Spectrum Positive Expo is +% on the TX, Hitec is a -%. I asked on the Hitec forum here and had an 2 answers in 30mins. One from the Hitec Rep and one from a customer explaining in detail.
Now that's customer service !

funflier -> RE: SWEET!!! (5/11/2008 12:03:53 AM)

You just made my day as I erased all my data this morning...again.[:o] Now I know I am not alone! ALSO, lost the data for my flying wing and sail plane whil looking for it.[:@] However I did write it down but its a pain to go in and input it all over again. Wish I could download it to the puter and upload it back.[8D] Right, dream on!

DumbDawg -> RE: SWEET!!! (5/11/2008 1:44:04 AM)

I don't think the radios are all that bad... although I haven't been able to use mine yet but from those that have'm really like them and say they Tx's have really improved their heli's flight characteristics.

Its just they tech support and manual REALLY SUCK. The manual has gobs of wasted space, nice B/W pics but very little in the way of explanations of what and how to program their TX.

Whats INH??? Whats the EXPO for and what do the adjustments do??? Things that a noob flyer won't know unless he asks in a post or searches throughly for. yah... the manul is very lacking. But like anything there is a learning curve and this is part of the equation.

Come on Spectrum.... make a better manual.

happy fly'n

rparn2 -> RE: SWEET!!! (5/11/2008 4:46:24 AM)

I am get a programable tx in a couple of weeks was thinking about getting the DX6I but after reading here would a Futaba be a better choice but futaba manual may not be any better. Any thoughts happy flying Rick

Husko -> RE: SWEET!!! (5/11/2008 4:51:30 AM)

Awsome Empty Wallet, I'm glad your first flight went well for you. Are you using pitch and balancing tools along with your TX?

Empty Wallet -> RE: SWEET!!! (5/11/2008 12:36:09 PM)

Oh yeah. Ya gotta have the tools to do the job right. If you dont, you add in a bit of error at every step of the set up. You will never get the best perfomance out of your heli that way.

Speaking of performance, the rate gyro they put on the belt is a real piece-o-crap.
Went flying this morning. Eight minutes into it the tail starts wagging, then starts spinning out of control.
I was real lucky to be able to set it down without crashing it. Had I been in ripping around when that happend, I would be looking to buy a new heli already.

DX6i is actually working very well for me on my King 2..There is just some down time while you learn the suckers settings. For the price, I would still buy the DX6i. My King is much smoother to control by 10 fold when compared to the stocker.

We were just venting frustrations because we all got the same radio at pretty much the same time and had issuse with programming. For the most part, I am recalling my comments...This is easy once you get it!!! Makes possibilities endless too.....

Empty Wallet -> RE: SWEET!!! (5/13/2008 1:14:57 AM)

I agree. Its a great radio for the money. I had downloaded the manuals for both the spectrum and futaba 6EX radios. While the futaba manuals are a little better, I think the DX6I is actually a better radio. It has more features.
I tried the stock Tx that came with my Belt CP just for kicks before I switched out the receiver for the one that came with the DX6I.
It flies like a completely different heli.
No regrets

funflier -> RE: SWEET!!! (5/13/2008 4:31:02 AM)

I thnk the recievers are less for the Spectrum (some as low as 50$ even less off ebay) then the Futaba, big diff is from experience with Futaba is they usually have a darn good manual. But you pay dearly for it. If you go to their site you can download the manual then use it as a reference as to what the functions are for.
