Hey guys,
Progressing along on the setup of my first nitro heli. It's a used Evo 50 I bought here on RCU. I got to a point where I could run the engine some and get some gratification. I still have other things to set up before it's ready for it's first flight, but I have a question from running it up. As the rotor spools up and get's close to hover rpm it get's a relativley nasty wobble. I'm guessing it may be how tight I have the rotor blades?? If I remember correctly I read somewhere along the way that if it does that during spool up it's either to tight or too lose, and the opposite if it does it when spooling down?? The previous owner told me the blades are balanced and that they have been tracked so it shouldn't be either of those. Anything else I should check??

Thanks,
Todd

A generally accepted "rule of thumb" for tightness is that if you hold the heli on it's side and gently bounce it, they should just begin to move . . . too tight gets you the shakes. Too loose, and they fold back on spoolup (or other things) . . .

Tim is correct, hold it on its side and they should stay put, give it a shake and they should move. Also strive for approx even tension on the bolts.

Some (most maybe) helicopters go through a period or ressonance where they shake during spool up, the cure, if thats whats going on, is to power through it quickly and get the head up to speed.
