Do a search with teh this website and surely you find some of the answers that you are looking for. Get something tht you are intereted in. Be it glider or electric. Alot of the bigger birds have been switched over to eletric just for the fact taht most fields have issues with gliders setting up high starts or winches, unless it is a glider club. bigger planes are easier to see and fly. Your only limited to what you want. What type of flying are you planning on doing and what do you expect out of the model. You are looking at a very large range of different types. My guess would be to the one that trips your trigger the most. You can't go wrong in most casess.

I went through this process early this winter and ended up buying the Big Bird XL. I just opened the box tonight to start building.
The wood looks quite nice so far.

I've been looking at that one this afternoon too. It's been a while since I built a kit. I email Ray Hayes @ Skybench and asked for his advise on what he though would work well for my situation. I didn't get much of an answer from him. He only answered one of my questions about if they sold ARF's. All he said is we don't sell ARF's. Most of my answers went un-answered. Well, I'm going to keep that one in mind. I'll have to check back with you and see how construction is going. Are you planning to put a motor in it? If so, which one? Thanks.....

Ray's kind of old school, you build your own planes. All his Bird series fly great, my friend built a couple, and I've built his OLY II, wood is great, parts fit was great flew great. These old style woodies all make really good electric conversions.

I don't own one but all I have read about the Skybench planes has been been happy customers who love the quality of the kits and the way tne planes fly. So I don't think you can go wrong wtih a Skybench kit.

The Bird series has a very strong following.

Since the common knowledge says that bigger flies better, and I have to say that experience shows me that this is true, go for the largest plane you feel you can manage to launch, store and transport.

CHeck out http://www.EspritModels.com - he's got a Bird 3000 for a good price, in ARF form. I think under $200...I LOVE the shape of the wing! Nice sailplane, for sure.

The best advice one can follow on ANY kit is to carefully IDENTIFY each part prior to glueing anything. The parts for my Big Bird were very nicely grouped in sequence. Then I dropped 'em!! I did manage to sort 'em out though. I just appreciate the effort to have them pregrouped more. A layout of the parts so you have a good Idea of what goes where is essential. If you have detected that I am talking to myself you would be correct...I did glue the wrong rib down right off the start! fortunately I had only slightly tacked it down.
