The canopies for Sky Raider Mach II's are brittle. I've had quite a few get broken. I've got three broken ones on planes now.
I'm thinking about making a mold so I can make fiberglass canopies or getting some clear ones made from good plastic.
Or maybe there is already a good substitute out there. If SIG or someone else has one that is comparable in size, perhaps we should designate it as a "legal" replacement.
I don't want to start down a slippery slope, but I also don't want to pay $6 for a brittle replacement.
What do you guys think?

Great idea! Especially since most of us rest the plane on that brittle canopy when we mount / de-mount the wing. My vote would be for CLEAR because of heat...it gets HOT in Texas...(wink)

If someone will get a part # and submit a proposal to the Club 40 committee, we can discuss it and vote on allowing a replacement canopy.
I don't see a problem getting one (or more) approved. As long as the replacement is the same size or larger, I don't see where it could be considered a "Speed enhancement".

Glad you like the pilot. AutoZone used to sell them a few years back as antenna toppers. They also sell the sticker for my tail mark. Old Skullyman (the name my kids gave him) has been in a bunch of diffrent planes over the years. He is also a trusted propeller consultant.
