mikeyy300 -> Problem with Charger! (5/11/2008 1:47:36 AM)

I have an MRC Super Brain 960 and I am trying to charge a 3000mah battery and I have another one which is the exact same and it worked. Every time I press start it says error and I am sure the chords are connected. I think the problem may be that the voltage is so low that the charger just can't charge it. Before I press start it says the voltage is 0.07! On a 7.4 volt battery! Maybe this is the problem but if it is what do I do?

Now it charges but only for a little before going into trickle mode! It charges for about 3 minutes then switches to trickle mode?!

Low voltage on a battery like that usually indicates a bad pack , but you could try restarting the charger every time it stops. After a few times it may show 7 or 8 volts like it should. It might not fix it , but is worth trying. If the voltage never comes up then the pack or cell/cells, or connection is bad and may be able to be found with a dvm (voltmeter).

It charges now but only for a short period of time... Before going into trickle mode.

If the voltage is now up where it belongs then it may need restarted (without unplugging) or chargeing with a manual charger for the first time. If the voltage isn't up then you may have a bad pack/cell/connection.

No. Now my problem is that it only charges for like 3 minutes before going into trickle mode, and the battery isn't hot yet. And lol hi guver Remember me? I was going to purchase a lipo batt and a charger and needed a duratrax converter thingy and you were going to sell me one cheap! Well I never got the lipo... Instead I got a brushless blackjack proboat! It's nice!

Do you notice the battery voltage climbing really fast, or climbing a lot, say more than 4 volts? You don't say what rate you're using, but try charging at a lower rate.

Tim

It's a 3000mah batt and I'm charging at 3amps. Also at first it said 0.09 volts and now when its charging it says like 8.3 volts. And this is a 7.4 volt battery.

Tim@MRC -> RE: Problem with Charger! (5/13/2008 6:19:57 PM)

So is it holding the voltage, or is it falling off? The charger tripped off because it looked at the original voltage in the battery, and then the voltage it went to, and figured that something was wrong. You may have to hit the start button a few times in order for it to take a full charge. Keep checking the temp of the battery. Once it starts to get warm to the touch and it shuts off, it's done. This is NiMh battery?

mikeyy300 -> RE: Problem with Charger! (5/13/2008 11:50:48 PM)

ya nimh. But idk when its done bc i have done multiple charges bc it only goes for like 2 mins so now I dont know whether its right or wrong!

Tim@MRC -> RE: Problem with Charger! (5/16/2008 4:58:06 PM)

Sorry for the delay, I was out of the office for a few days. Is the battery getting warm at all? What charge rate are you using?

mikeyy300 -> RE: Problem with Charger! (5/17/2008 1:28:04 AM)

im using 3.0 amps. I cant tell if the battery gets warm bc i have charged it for many very short times and it doesn't get warm in that period

Tim@MRC -> RE: Problem with Charger! (5/19/2008 8:18:15 PM)

So if one battery worked fine, and the other won't charge for more than a few minutes, then I'd say it's definitley a problem with that battery.

mikeyy300 -> RE: Problem with Charger! (5/20/2008 1:13:55 AM)

I think I figured that one out a long time ago. I guess I can handle htis myself seeing as no one hear is giving me straight answers

guver -> RE: Problem with Charger! (5/20/2008 2:46:53 AM)

It seems the pack was very low voltage for some reason. I'd try chargeing it with a wall charger at c/10 for 15 hrs .

Second choice is to use it dead and then keep restarting charger until a total of around 3000 mah has been put in. Allow it to trickle the full amount at the end (last charge).

mikeyy300 -> RE: Problem with Charger! (5/20/2008 3:21:43 AM)

ok thanks
