Status: offline 		Hello everyone I want to get into helis but need some help I have been and will continue to use real flight simulator before I do it for real. what I need to know is what is best for newbeis gas or electric. I want to get something in the $800-$1000.00 range RTF. I like the raptor 50 and have herd this is a good choice. But I really don't care what I end up with as long as its a good heli. Thanks for all the help guys.

Status: offline 		If you are a member of a club, I would suggest a Nitro 50. Instead of the Titan, get the R50SE, if you can afford it.
You need somebody to teach you the basic of 2 stroke engines.
If you are going alone without any help whatsoever, I suggest an electric.
But as an electric, something like the T-Rex or Mini Titan would be more suitable.

I "strongly" recommend finding help, even if you just go once or twice to a club and find somebody that checks out your setup and tune the model for you.

Status: offline 		Yep, get a small one.

Apart form the big helies, I have got a two T-Rex's, but I actually would recommend the Mini Titan.
Get 2 batteries and spare parts straight off.

Spare parts should include:

At least one boom
2~4 Flybars
2 Mainshafts
2 sets of Main blades (stick with timber ones for the moment or cheap CF)
1 set of tail blades

Unless of course you live near a hobby shop where you can pick the parts of the shelf

Follow the setup in the manual "to the letter"

Keep the motor disconnected during setup
Even that these helies are small, they are dangerous, so until you get a bit more familiar with it, treat it like a snarling dog.

Status: offline 		In your price range you could get a hurricane 550 or something like it. Its a 30 size and is much easier to hover. I started with a 450 and moved to it , if I had it to do over again i would have started with the 550. Parts cost is about the same and its much more stable.

Status: offline 		i assume you are wanting a nitro heli that can grow with you as your skills become better a 30 or some 50's are good choices a couple that come to mind are Jr there venture line are great but they no longer have a 30 size also the thunder tiger's are absolutely wonderful and very stable also parts are easy to get as most hobby shops carry them and you can get a 30,50,60 all the way to a 90. if your skills are already good then get a kinetic 50 they are good 50's and parts are easy to get and cheep just tear it down and re lock-tight it . check your local hobby shop and see what they sell and what parts they carry then make your decision

Status: offline 		First decide on where you'll be flying. This makes easier the decision whether to go nitro or electric.

If you have the space, it will be A LOT EASIER to learn on a bigger, and having said that, go straight to a 50, not a 30, you will outgrow it faster than you think.

The small 450's are good if you are restricted to your back yard(then again it depends how big it is) or a local park. But are much more difficult to control in the beginning and harder to fly with wind conditions.

Anyway you go, just go slow at it and you'll do fine.Move to something new to the real one, once you can do it comfortably at the sim and you won't crash......much !
