I have a GP super skybolt arf. I am thinking of putting a fore stroke in it. I am looking for some input,

should I go with the os fs 91

or a saito 91?

any help would be great.

Mine is the kit, which builds heavier than the ARF, and I have an O.S. FS-1.20 Surpass w/Pump in it. I wouldn't consider a smaller engine for the kit. However, a friend of mine bought the ARF, and he put a Saito 1.00 in it which hauls it around fairly well.
Although the manual calls for a .70 - .91 4-stroke, I think you may be disappointed with the performance. The Skybolt is a super aerobat and you'll want some power to get the most enjoyment out of it.
Besides, they're very tailheavy. I have nearly 14 ounces of lead forward of the firewall even with the big OS 1.20 and a sub-C NiMH receiver pack immeditely behind the firewall. So you might as well put a slightly heavier engine in it to avoid having to put too much useless lead in the nose.
I'd go for a 1.00 - 1.20 4-stroke if it was my plane.

Status: offline 		Consider adding a layer of decent plywood on the firewall. It is only two layers of LitePly and almost completely unsupported on the top 1/4. Only has the sheeted foam of the fuselage up there.

It doesn't have to be thick, just thick enough. 1/16" works well.

Status: offline 		Our field instructor has one with a .91 OS surpass and it looks to fly great,but I've never actually flown it myself. He sure makes it fly nice anyway.

Status: offline 		I have the Skybolt ARF with the OS .91 Surpass on the front and has all the power I want. If I were to do it again I would probably go with the Saito to save a little weight. I balanced my plane according to the manual but it was extremely nose heavy and I eventually removed all the weight I added to the nose.

It's a great flying plane, in fact my favorite.

Status: offline 		I have the same plane,gp superskybolt arf.I have had one years befors with a ys 110. it flew wonderful and fast. this one has a dle 20 gas engine. with 2 batterys in the nose it is nuteral at cg.this engine is new/3 hrs running time.it will pull 12 lbs thrust with a 15/8 prop 9740 rpm or 12 lbs with a 15/8 vess 8720 rpm. 8lbs 8 oz auw.it flies good.i only fly gas and have 3 other dle engines. the covering on this arf is not the guality i expected from gp. the construction was fine but the covering sucks big time.

Status: offline 		In the kit building forum there is a thread called Show us Your Bolts and you can see a lot of them and see what engines they are using. Just do a search. Some ARFs in the thread too but mostly kits.

Status: offline 		I have an OS 61 SF in my Skybolt ARF and it flies great. For a four stroke the OS 95V four stroke would really go nice in that plane. I have the 95V in a Revolver 70 and GP P-47 and it has lots of pulling power with a APC 14x7 prop.

Read up on it.. its one nice plane. I've got one sittting here waiting to put together. I bought an OS 1.10 for it a while back... put that in another plane and I like it so much in that.. I contemplated buying another 1.10 ... instead bought the OS 95V... and I've yet to run that engine.. but my SkyBolt is getting one or the other... I can't imagine this bipe with anything but a 4-stroke.

That would be my first choice too but I have a couple of them on hand. I would also use one of my OS .91s, I have a couple of them too. At the field the OS .91 seems to be the most popular choices.

Status: offline 		In the ARF I have an OS 61 SF; it is the engine the origianal GP Skybolt was designed for. It provides more than enough power with an APC 12x7 prop and flies it very well including verticle performance.
