ive recently bought an axial .28 after the genuine 1 carked itself, i have run it in.
i found a temp sensor not a temp gun but the readings are accurate enough.
i was just wondering because the manafactuer of the engine say best temp is between 210 F and 275 F and 235 F being the ideal temp
but it doesnt tell you where to measure the temp is it on the cooling head, on the engine block itself, on the exahaust or next to the glow plug???? im stumped at where to check

Any help would be greatly appreciated???

you want to check temps at the glow plug.

cheers man!!
because i was checking it at the glow plug at it seemed to be alright around 220F and then i checked it at the exhaust and it was considerably hotter like 330F

but the people at the hobby shop say the temp is good if you can leave your hand on the coolinh head for 4 seconds... but i cant touch anything hotter than roughly 130 so im wondering wat this 4 second thing is??

personally i like using a temp gun. if you point it at the glow plug, and move around a little bit you can find the highest reading and that's what you should go by. Plus its nice to just bring the truck by you, hit the button quick, and you got a reading.

As for butting your hand on the head... why get burned? The head is designed to dissipate heat, because they're air cooled engines, so at the very top of the head it will be considerably cooler, but still, i'd rather use a temp gun then touch it.

220 is good, you could probably even lean it out a little more, which will raise the engine temp, but you'll get more power. i like to try and keep my engines around 230-240, but if you're happy with the way it runs now, by all means keep it cool. what %nitro are you running?

you should be good to go man, make sure you're using clean high quality fuel with a nice clean air filter and you should have a good running engine.

You should at least bump up to 20% nitro with no more than 12% oil. The axial engines run better above 250. Like more around 260-265. Dont worry about temps in teh upper 200 range. Its not going to hurt the engine. Just make sure that you put the piston at bottom dead center after every run and the pinch will last a long time. If you are running temps at 220 then you are not getting even close to your max power.
