is it legal to play airsoft at night at a school? we were just playing at a school by my house and some lady got mad and said she was calling the cops. we left and went to my friends house across the street and sure enough, a few minutes later, a sherrif came out with a spotlight and was searching the school. we just hung out at my friends house until they left but i was just wondering if what we were doing was wrong. i suspect the lady might have thought we were vandals or something because a few weeks ago, someone sprayed grafitti all over the campus and stole some computers. either way i wont be playing airsoft there again but i would still like to know

I'm not 100% on US airsoft laws, but I would suspect that firstly, you are not allowed to play with replica weapons in public full stop. Also, I doubt you are allowed to enter your school after hours, so to be honest, I'm not surprised someone called the cops. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on the legalities, but you honestly can't say you are surprised, I hope?

well, as for not being allowed to enter, the gates are always left open. i drivwe my rc's there sometime and my dad flies his plane there. we have played airsoft there many times before and nobody said anything about it. one time there were even some maintainence people there and they didnt even say anything. as for the aspect of replica weapons, they dont really look real since they are clear and california law requires all airsoft guns to have a bright orange tip.

Quite frankly, I would recommend that you NEVER display a replica firearm in public view. In this day and age you're asking for trouble. It's irresponsible and could easily get you shot.

I would recommend not doing that again, that's just asking for trouble. Even know the airsoft guns are clear at night it can be hard to tell if there real or not. You don't want a cop to mistake them for real weapons and fire at you.

agreed, not that long ago there was a "gun scare" at a school and it turned out to be a rubber repecla that a student forgot to put into a duffel bag when he walked across campus so the school goes into lockdown... over a repleca, ya, some people i know take the orange tip off their airsoft guns (REAL BAD IDEA) to make them look like the real thing, ya, scary stuff , if in doubt, don't do it or you may end up shot and or in jail ....

you CANNOT( and i stress it again CANNOT) play with your airsoft gun unless its a private or designated field WITH permission or license to do so.. replica or not. if you have your gun out in public the police can throw you in the slammer. unless it looks clearly like a toy. IE a nerf gun.

IF out in public, the gun needs to be in a carry case. I have a rifle bags for my two sniper rifles and my G36c.

heres the important line from CA codes"

12556. (a) No person may openly display or expose any imitation firearm, as defined in Section 12550, in a public place.
(b) Violation of this section, except as provided in subdivision
(c), is an infraction punishable by a fine of one hundred dollars ($100) for the first offense, and three hundred dollars ($300) for a second offense.
(c) A third or subsequent violation of this section is punishable as a misdemeanor.
(d) Subdivision (a) shall not apply to the following, when the imitation firearm is:
(1) Packaged or concealed so that it is not subject to public viewing.

i dont have cases for my guns. when transporting my guns i put them in my gun rack. if i have more than 2 i put the rest on the seat in plain view, actions open, and of course, empty.

BTW thanks for the info on the codes. we still have a place to play (the place where my rc track is). only problems with it are no lighting when it gets dark and there are rattle snakes and coyotes.

I have 2 airsoft guns, that I won't dare brandish in public, they look abosolutly real 1ft away. Of course I painted the little orange tip black, which is illegal.

Saying that the airsoft edicit is to transport your guns in a case, and they stay in that case until you are in battle, nobody wants the cops called over a gun that shoots plastic bbs and spoil everyone fun.

These guns look absolutly real and should be treated as real guns, be responsible with your airsoft guns or they will get permantly banned, as they almost got banned a few years back.

i ment that i put my real guns in the gun rack. my airsoft gun is the little $17 pistol from walmart that says it shoots 250 fps.
