Low battery - receiver / transmitter.

Someone else was on the same frequency.

Lose connection / pinched wire.

Besides bad batteries (in both transmitter and reciever) and interference, check for water in servos, receiver and switch. Also, the switch may be getting bad.

Well, there are several occurances that could have possibly happened.

It could have recieved some interferance from another source or device. It may also be a problem with your servo's or wiring itself. Double check and make sure there are no loose wires or any moisture around the wires. They should all be properly connected. You may also have a week battery(s) in either your car or transmitter. Make sure they are fully charged for best preformance.

Be sure that the crystals are firmly seated in both the tx and rx.

Unlikely, but not impossable. Check the antenna for cuts and loose solder conections. Also, if you have another set of crystals, try swapping them out completely.
Does the radio act up if the car is off or only when the engine is running? Twitching servos are/can be pretty common on a running nitro rc. You may need to start checking all of the metal-to-metal contacts/screws.
Also, if you do decide to try a new reciever, check e-bay. The stock rx's are usually on there for a lot less than $45.
