25 and under are firehazards, 40 and over are over-kill, you may wanna look at 30A and 35A ESC. The programming you can do by buying the programming card along with the ESC.

not trying to sound rash, but to the people replying, have any links to the motors you are using instead of 'i've got a ..amp this, or that'.

A good motor/esc to start with
http://www.ka-planes.com/inc/sdetail/8837

for a bigger motor or batteries, you'll need something like this, it's what I have on my Belt CP
http://www.ka-planes.com/inc/sdetail/13661

And I bought this program card, works great, makes it very easy to set ESC properly
http://www.ka-planes.com/inc/sdetail/6082

I also have a pair of these for my HBK II's, not bad if you don't mind waiting for them, and they're not programable with a Hobbywing Program card

also I burnt up my 3100 by running 20c 2200mAh 11.1v LiPos through it so I'm gonna try this motor with the ESky 25a ESC
https://www.****/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5499

I have 2 Danlion motors I was gonna use for my HBK II, but I also just bought this
https://www.****/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6387

and this ESC for it

Just to clarify the situation on ESC's / Motors and batteries.

-

This from another thread and an excellent post by Rosebud6

This is how a fellow pilot explained it to me ( me having a 3800 and a 25a esc):

'Just think of the battery as a water source, and the ESC as a straw, and the motor as you sucking on the straw.

The bat is capable of more, but the ESC maxes out at 25a, so you will never go over 25a because you can never "suck" more through that size of "straw".

Here is how you blow your ESC. If the motor draws over 25a (ie. you hit the ground and it is still trying to spin, but it can't) it will blow the ESC. So I think of the ESC as a fragile, almost paper straw. Because if you suck too hard, it will blow.

Speed controllers are rated in amps and batteries are rated in "C"

So my battery at 25C is equal to 54amps. (I have a 2170 battery at 25C, 2.17*25=54)
Your ESC at 25 amps will only pull 11.5C (25/2.17=11.5)'

Then you add on your gyro and servo draws.

-

In short you will not damage your motor by running 20/25C batteries, a battery can only supply what is required of it. Nuttcaze if you blew a 3100KV motor it was probably due to shoddy workmanship on behalf of E-Sky with regard to the motor itself and the 3100's aren't the most reliable to start with.

PS. Nuttcaze have you found the auto rotation gear on your E-Smart yet?

well I was using a larger battery and flying the heck out of it when the 3100 died so I'm sure it was my partly my fault. But unfortunately the ES600 is shelved till my DX6i gets sent back from being fixed , but I hope I never have to try an auto with it, the tail belt gear meshes with the main gear on the opposite side of the motor pinion, so there is no acutal way to do a correct autorotation landing cause the tail blades stop spinning as soon as the motor stops, its not tied into the autorotaion feature with the main blades but its pretty beefy so not overly worried about it

well, i`m still not getting this esc/motor thing,is the esc`s amp rating relative to the motor amps and relative to the size and discharge rate of the battery? does this mean that if i get bigger battery i have to get new esc? i purchased this http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servlet/the-658/4-channel-rc-helicopter/Detail motor and esc combo for my hbfp, i figure if the esc comes with the motor it must be the right one, i was using the stock 800mAh battery and it worked just fine at first but then esc cought on fire,i send an email to the seller but no response yet, i have a bigger battery on the way from thunder power extrme, it`s 2200 mah 7.4v lipo with discharge rate up to 55 amps ,what would be the right esc for this motor and battery? i need to get new esc so i can get this bird back in the air but i dont know to get

Man I can't imagine a HBFP lifting off with a 2200mAh lipo, its gotta weigh the same as the heli or close to it, but maybe not. If you're really interested in going with all seperates this will be your best bet.

http://www.helihobby.com/html/separate_electronics.html

Otherwise I'd just stick with stock or slo-max motors till then, the setup you were running is kinda inbetween the stock setup and going with seperates so that could be the prob but I don't know cause I run stock with a 11.1v 1000mAh lipo and have all the power I could ever want, and still can't seem to kill my stock 370 motors Also I can't recommend a esc for that cause I'm still kinda new to this also, so I'm trying to stick with tried and proven methods of going brushless. IMO
