971wright -> RANGE HAS REDUCED (5/11/2008 10:59:30 AM)

HI Guys The range on my panzer III has droped from 60yds to 15yds could this be due to metal schurzen that I have fitted acting as a screen? If so is there a cure could I use the schurzen as an ariel or ground plane to increase range back to about the same I had before? If its posible how do I do it?with ouut removing the schurzen.

regards pete

Hi Pete
You said it, you've stuck it inside a metal box. (I bet its a well engineered box). What sort of aerial are you using? Is it the bog standard one, or a loop antenna type? And / Or any pictures please?

Hi Simon just been going through my shed and have noticed that the transmiter ariel on some of my transmiters are differant lengths does anyone now which one is right for 27mhz if this is to short or to long I think it may be one of the reasons why the range has droped need to sort this before doing anything else .

Hi Pete,
1/8th or 1/16 wavelength is pretty universal for whip aerials.
So if memory serves me correctly, the formula is (speed of light)/(radio frequency) = wavelength

for 1/16 @ 27Mhz
300e+8 / 27e+6 / 16 = approx 700mm.

for 1/16 @ 40Mhz
300e+8 / 40e+6 / 16 = approx 470mm.

Don't forget that this is the total length from RX board to tip of antenna.

There are components on the RX card to compensate for differing aerial lengths, and these can be easily adjusted (with the correct equipment). Like most things I suppose.

Measuring my aerials looks like HL are using 1/32 antenna.

Hi Its the length of transmitter ariels I think some of them may be 40mhz need to know the length of 27mhz transmitter ariels so that Ican sort them out .
