Anyone setup a python on a 106? I'm worried if I wont be able to balance it with the 106 on cans. I see guy having issues on the da 100 and putting balast in the back. Are the locations in the tail for a rudder servo?

I actually think there is a lot of misunderstanding on this subject. Sometimes people use balancers that are far different (may be more accurate, maybe not) than the way we did the balancing using traditional finger lift method. How much is your 106 heavier than the DA100. Just use a very light spinner and make sure to put your batteries on the tray, I doubt you will face any balancing nightmares.

Check out my Python build thread and see if anyone else has used the 106 http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6301103/mpage_36/tm.htm

Thank you,
Reza

Just finished my Python with a 3W-106CS. I am having a slight problem with balanceing.
First off the 3Ws' nose is 1/2 inch or 21mm longer than a DA. Useing the provided 1" standoffs, the back of spinner plate is 1 1/2" away from the face of the cowl. (and I am not useing a spinner or backplate). I am going to move the engine back 1/2 inch and see what happens.
Right now, I have two LIth-Ion Duralite 7.4V 3000MAs' and a 6V-1700ma NIMH for the Ignition on the rear tray and according to the manual it is still nose heavy according to the manual.

I take two hardwood triangles, and tape them to the bottom of the wing with the points at the called for CG. (85mm from the leading edge on the hardwood spar.) then set the points on Auto jackstands. ( one man opperation here and I have used this method for a long time even on 40% size planes.) The manual stated the plane is very sensitive to the CG location and 5mm can make a big difference. Therefore I am making every effort to get it right.
Are you stateing I have some leadway here?
Thanks,
Wayne.

Wayne, are you using stock mufflers or cans?

Stock mufflers.
I am using a 3-W 28/10 wood prop right now, a CF prop will be lighter.
I have on on order.

OK, I removed all spacers from engine. Mounted engine directly to firewall. Plane balanced with the two Duralites on the rear tray and ignition battery under the rudder servo tray.
Ready to fly as soon as I shorten throttle linkage, and hook up choke.

OK Maden flight 2:30pm winds 8-10 mph. ( right down the middle of the runway), temp 93 degrees.
This is all I can say
This thing is wild ! Tracks streight as an arrow. Flies like it weighs 10 pounds.
Hovers at 1/4 throttle. Snaps are crisp. Let go of the sticks and it stops. Knife edge required no aile, or elev. Very nice.
Initial set up as per the manual, but I like a little less expo and a little more throw at low rates.
Landing was like a butterfly with sore feet.
Final weight 28 pounds 3oz.
This is the smallest plane I have, I have a Carden 40% Edge and a 40% Cap, An AW 40% Yak, and a H9- 46% Ultimate. All have 3-W 157cs's in them.
This Python may be my favorite plane very quickly.
It is not the easiest to assemble at the field, but I think it is worth the trouble.
Anyone tell me what the 4 plywood things with the rubber bands are for? Looks like they should line up the wings but they do not fit very well.

Awesome Wayne

Those are to take the top and bottom wings off together without having to remove the inner struts but you need to be able to transport a two story building with you to do that

Thanks Rezagh, I thought they were for something like that.
In the corner they go along with the rest of my if you might need some wood pile.
Just got back from the field again. I now have eight (8) flights on it and I am very happy with it. I purchased the plane at Joe Nall after seeing it fly. I'm am not disappointed.
I will say I think it is a little overpowered with the 106. I cut the travel on the throttle back and it handles a lot better.
again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why did they not make this plane with removable stabs!!!!! That's the only thing stopping me from buying one, I am not wanting to purchase a trailer, I can haul all my other planes in my SUV by removing the stab and sliding the tail between the front seat console thus no problem. However I cannot get a Python with the stabs attached between the seats. It's beyond me a plane that costs as much as this one does and is as nice as it is that this does'nt have this option! Shame on you QQ and Wayne, I'm not bashing just dissappointed that this is the only thing that stops me from ordering this plane tommorrow.

Gregman, I put mine in a Ford Explorer and I just went out and placed it in my daughters Pathfinder. Pull passengers seat all the way forward, place nose in first set it cross ways and close the hatch.

H Wayne S- Thanks for the infor- My son has a Ford Explorer, I drive a Nissan Xterra which is a bit smaller than the Pathfinder. I guess I need to make some measurements, boy if any way possible I sure like to have one of these. Maybe I could "carjack" the Explorer on Saturdays!!! Do you have any pics of yours, and what engine are you using?
Thanks, Greg

gregman, I'm useing a 3W-106CS, whick is overpowering this plane. I think an 85 would be perfect and help with the balanceing.
I am not smart enough to post pictures, but I will try to get my wife to when she returns from Texas.

Dont hesitate to buy another vehicle. I had the same predictiment a couple years ago after I bought a 1/4 scale Taylorcraft with a 1 piece wing. Came home later that week with a new daily driver that would fit all my planes at the time(Taurus wagon). Now with the recent arrival of my 40%. I am looking to buy a truck for it. Its a fun hobby that costs money. How bad do you want to play?
