mabuecker -> Bad clutch bell (5/11/2008 5:36:03 PM)

I know I need a new clutch bell...although if its bad it(clutchbell)will make a loud hollow sound?

Osirisf16 -> RE: Bad clutch bell (5/11/2008 5:41:04 PM)

NO, not at all. First, you can't hear it when the engine is on. It's impossible to hear your gears' sounds [:D]. If your engine is off and you moving your car forward and backwards so you see if the gears are working and you hear a horribl;e sound, i don't know. Mine are both really smooth. The clutch bell is SILENT [;)]

joydude630 -> RE: Bad clutch bell (5/11/2008 6:50:47 PM)

When I start my engine; the clutch makes a ting ting sound all the time. I guess couple of teeth's are knocked off. Is it true?

Osirisf16 -> RE: Bad clutch bell (5/11/2008 7:57:56 PM)

What do you mean that the teeth are knocked off? Anyway, i know what you are talking about this ting ting sound. I didn't have experinece with mine but from my friends'. I think it was the springs. I don't remember exactly. Or might be that the whole engine moved a little and the sound was coming from the teeth of the clutch bell when they were hitting the teeth of the spur gear. Is your clutch bell moving when you are in idle?

mabuecker -> RE: Bad clutch bell (5/11/2008 8:00:38 PM)

no engine not running...just rolling by hand on floor...my truggys quiete and my buggy(that I just got with used clutch bell)is noisy at the clutch bell(sounds hollow teeth to teeth as the bell and spur roll together)...it has a few teeth that are heavily worn so I will replace...I'm just finishing up rebuilding a buggy bought used...the lhs is an hour away although I will get there in a couple days...just trying to fix what I can...

Osirisf16 -> RE: Bad clutch bell (5/11/2008 8:38:06 PM)

Worn teeth? Is there any heavy friction while you pushing your car forward?

mabuecker -> RE: Bad clutch bell (5/11/2008 9:44:52 PM)

no heavy friction...mesh is good I assume teeth are worn heavily?

adam-69 -> RE: Bad clutch bell (5/11/2008 9:58:31 PM)

erm, not trying to demean you in anyway but have you set the gear mesh atall?

Yes there is a little friction when I push the car. The clutch is moving as well. Hope I haven't lost a couple of teeths.

Osirisf16 -> RE: Bad clutch bell (5/12/2008 11:19:14 AM)

A lot of friction? Don't forget to release the brakes when you tell me this. If so, unscrew the engine's screws and move the engine until is free from the spur gear or make it mesh a little, and try again to push the car forward. The friction is the same? If the friction now is less, that means that you overmesh the teeth and you need to find a good mesh between clutch bell's teeth and spur gears' teeth.

PS When you are going to move the engine, be carefull not to leave it in a position that the teeth will stuck somewhere.

But i think that this isn't your sound problem, but anyway you must fix it before you run your car, because the teeth may be chewed

mabuecker -> RE: Bad clutch bell (5/12/2008 1:05:15 PM)

I did reset the engine and its better...thanks for the info...I still will grab a new clutchbell...its a 12 on there now I'll get a 14...

Osirisf16 -> RE: Bad clutch bell (5/12/2008 3:34:43 PM)

12????? That's a very low high speed you got there. With the 14 you will see difference, that's for sure. Put a 15 instead. It's a medium clutch bell. The acceleration and the top speed are more balanced. Of course, it always depend on your engine [;)]

mabuecker -> RE: Bad clutch bell (5/13/2008 3:22:36 AM)

Its got an os21 on there...14or15??I have a 14 set aside with the rest of the stuff I need...I cannot afford both...get the other in a couple weeks...unless you say one?

mabuecker -> RE: Bad clutch bell (5/13/2008 3:28:11 AM)

I found a stripped(wont tighten)center diff mount screw(that was maybe throwing the balance off I believe with the combination of worn bell to make noise)so either I'll just put a bigger one(screw in place of original)in for now or I do have one(center diff mount)ordered...there only $5...
