SportsFans -> P3 lockup at TDC? Hey Supertib! (5/11/2008 6:59:47 PM)

Hey all just bought a Picco p3 Have run it 4 times and only successfully twice. The problem is when the piston is TDC it gets stuck? This happens often with engine cold or hot (210 degress) then I have to remove the cooling head and gently tap in the piston with a narrow piece of wood and a hammer ever so gently to free it from TDC. I'm running 30%, and it happens when rich or lean? Here's a brief vid of the 3rd time out. It sounds good but about five minutes after that it locked at TDC temps 220f degress? Each time out somthing breaks like the pull string, rotostart, and today finally the rotostart back plate blew out the side! HELPPPPPPPPPPP.......AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!![sm=drowning.gif]

Its just the pinch, I nearly blew a starter box trying to get mine running.

It'll sort itself out over time. The pinch is INSANE on these motors.!

Your right it's INSANE! Did you also have to remove the head to free it also? Thanks for the response!

Nope, a flat-head screw driver to the flywheel, a lil bit of wiggling and it used to free itself.

Its tamed down now, Thank God, but it still gets stuck at times.

Just use a flat-head screw driver against the flywheel when it gets stuck. I used the non-pull start version, so I could free it in any direction, I think you'll have to free it counter-clockwise.

just got a new jammin .28 and the pinch isnt THAT bad. only has about 8 heat cycles through it but at about 160-170 degrees i can unpinch it with a flat head to the flywheel...
just make sure during cooling you have it at BDC...

warm the engine up first with a hairdryer. it easyer to start then:)

You guys NEED to preheat these engines .Once started temps need to get above 200 as quick as you can. Wrap the head with a damp paper towel then aluminum foil around that. This will help retain the heat quicker then once up to temps you can do your breakin. Its not a problem with the engine. Just be patient adn do the prheat. Also leave your ignitor on the head for a bit to help get temps up.

Thx guy's, but this happens when engine is good and hot about 210-220 degress F. After the 2nd or 3rd heat cycle, also putting the engine in BDC for cool down....just don't know?
