Elgreco3 -> Wamt to upgrade my servos...what to get ? (5/11/2008 7:14:43 PM)

Have the sceadu 50 with 4 9202's on it. Just starting to do some mild flips, rolls, etc and wanted to slowly upgrade my servos to something that will help me get better/faster control.

What is the way to go right now ? There are so many servos out there I just can't seem to be able to got through the specs of all so I thought to ask here some of the veteran guys.

I will most probably be getting a freya too. I was wondering if I should use the same servos as the ones I will be upgrading my 50 to.

Have to sell my new trex 500 though before getting my freya..[&o]Have to sacrifice one[:(]

9252's are good, 9452's are better, 8717 or bls451s are best

Hey Barracuda, thanks for the replies as always. I was doing a search for prices and run into this about the 451's not recommended for helis from futaba.
Maybe I am reading too much into it but thought to through this your way as I am not that experienced to have an opinion on this.

They work superbly.

Would I notice a difference if I go from 9202's to 9252's or it's not worth it and I should save for some better ones ?

If I were to attempt in the future any slow tic tocs, will they handle it or I need to get some 8717's ?

Mind you I am a long way before I try hard 3d but don't want to upgrade all the time.Might as well do it from the beginning.

The 9252's will do tick tocks effortlessly on my Predator 90, so they should have no problem handling the loads of your 50.

They are awesome on my Raven.

I use the BLS451's in my Trex 600N Pro and they work great. I use 9452's in my Hurricane 550 and they are very good also.

On the same topic, But kinda stealing your thread here, I want to know how you all feel about using JR 241 servos on the cyclic of a 450 sized bird, namely my Dragonus Elite?" I am using them for just that right now, as they are what came with my radio. They seem a little slow, but they are insanely strong, as far as torque goes, I am new to Flying as I have only been into Heli's for about a year now, and I am just wondering if I would be better off with the 285's or will I be fine with the 241's for now? Thanks a lot, and I am sorry if i offended by highjacking your thread but I didn't want to make a whole new one when there was one already on the same topic.

Oh yea, you will notice a difference. They are fine until you're really really flying at the ragged edge. Infact, I have 9252s on my 600N and one of the pro's flew it last week and asked me what servos I had in it, he thought they were 8717s or 9452's, he was shocked to find out they were 9252s, old ones at that.

yup, I'd second that.

I wanted to get some servos recently, wanted to be sure they wouldn't be the weakest link. I went 8717 over the bls451's because I read one too many threads with issues and of course the big hurrah about 'no for helis'. I figured fine, then I'll go for ones that are the same price, speed, torque and made for heli's and I'm very pleased with the 8717's right now.

You could think about keeping it down to something like 5625 to save some cash now, and for the next machine wait for what will be released later. Should be some killer new servos soon. Futaba will be releasing Heli brushless, Hitec has new digitals on the way, and I'm sure JR will want to keep up in the brushless area.

I've read about the same issues with the BLS451's but never had any problems with mine. I can't remember but I thought most of the problems I'd read about were in 90 size helis. Maybe the brushless motors had issues with the high torque demand and vibration??
