Good day all!

Just got in the new F-15's and just HAD to start working on it.

Have a few questions/problems though.

The elevators seem a bit on the tight side, and this plane uses the S75 servos. I was thinking of using the HiTec HS-65MG instead. Think this will throw the weight off too much?

How critical is the spinner nut on these? I have one that seems to be slightly off center. Is this going to cause too much vibration?

I know the plans call for the ESC's to be mounted in the center behind the battery, but what about airflow? I was thinking of mounting them in the duct area, just in front of the two holes in the bottom. Will this effect the air inlet too much, or will this help reduce temperatures for the ESC?

What is the best paint to use on this type of foam? I would like to repaint this in the grey U.S.A.F. colors. I have some good pics of the tail markings from a few of the old interceptor squadrons, but so far it seems that the paints I have tried just want to flake off. I do plan on using the Great Planes Armament kit on this as well, since it just HAS to have some missles on the wings.

I dd note, the motor mounting screws are to small for the 420 motors.

Anyone finish one yet? I am even putting the B-25 on temporary hold till I get this one done. 8-)

Horizon shows this is still backordered, where did you get yours?

In the preview video on the web, they say the motors pull 24amps max, but they use 40A ESCs due to minimal airflow through the fuselage.

I am on the fast forward program with Horizon. They were shipped out on thursday, and since I am like 150 miles from Horizon I get them next day.

I used a reamer on the hole for the elevators, since they were REALLY tight. A wee bit of graphite and the move smooth as silk now, should be ok with the S75 servo now. I did have to enlarge the holes in the fan housing to fir the motor wires through though, since the ends are pre soldered.

I did have to do a bit of fiddleing with the front retract assembly though, since the servo horn just did not want to slide. Also had to cut the shaft down a bit so it would go into the fuse without cutting the opening.

Once I get it all done I am going to strip it and paint it, if I can figure out what paint to use. White just does not cut it for an U.S.A.F. Vet. I am thinking of making up some decals from the interceptor squadron that was stationed at Castle AFB.

If it's styrofoam, I understand most spray paints will eat the foam. I remember someone posting some acrylic or latex spray paint that wouldn't eat foam, but I don't remember the brand name. If all else fails, a water based acrylic paint in an airbrush should work fine, though.

Post some photos of you plane as you go (if you can).

I saw it today at the LHS and it is alot bigger than I thought. The retracts seem to be nice as well. But, adding all the recommended motors,etc comes to $6oo! It sure looks good however.

I also had to ream out the holes for the elavators, they didn't seem to line up with each other which caused the servo to bind.

I use H2O paint spray available at Wall-mart stores.
They are water based and can be used directly on foam.
Only problem is that there are only a few colors available.

The small spray cans of Testors model paint doesn't eat foam, I use it on all of my foamies.

I am putting an Eflite F-15 together right now. When I snapped the ball links on the ball ends at the end of the rods for the elevators, the links snapped. They are cheap. I need ideas for fixing this. Also the aileron clevises are to small for the clevis. I put 2-56's instead.

I finished mine the other day and hope to test fly it this afternoon.

There were some problems with the supplied hardware. The motor mount screws are too small. If you use the 420 motors, you need 3mmx6 screws. I've been using DuBro stuff for many years and swapped those connectors and the pushrods for DuBro units.

I used seven HiTec 65MG servos, one HT 55 for nose wheel steering, two Castle Phoenix 45 ESC, and a Spektrum AR 7000 receiver. All up weight, with 2 Flite Power 2170 batteries is 48.9 ounces, RTF.

I am ready to mount my wings but the hole in the fuse that accepts the wing tube is way too big. Has anyone had the same problem?

Yes, they cut it big so you can slide the wing spar in easier. I slobbered lots of epoxy into the hole when I mounted my wing.

I went ahead and put it together today. I put some of that urethane glue that expands into the hole then wet the tube to activate the glue and shoved it in with epoxy on the mating parts. It just scares me with the speed I know this will fly at and not having a through spar.

I am using wicked 4800 KV motors in it from Dons RC so this thing will really boogie.

Krylon "Fusion" spray paint works very well with plastic and foam planes. It is available at Walmart and Auto Zone in my area of the country. I have used this on planes and really bonds well. Hope this helps and good luck. Anyone flown their F-15? Any impressions?

I thought I read that Krylon Fusion would eat EPS foam.

I've used several colors of Krylon "Fussion" on several planes with no bad results. All of the planes were foam and plastic. You might want to try a test piece just to make sure on your specific application. There is also cammo colors available.

I put my in the air sunday and it flys ok. Really flys heavy though. Make sure you put pleny of 5 min epoxy on the wings. After the third flight one wing few off in flight. It flys ok but wish it had more power. Im using the 420 motors and they do scream but it flys about 20 to 30 mph. It is nice to look at in the air and you can hear it going by you. i need help i have some 4200kv motors but they dont even produce enuf thrust 2 lift the fan unit up its self even with 4cell lipo how the f*** does it fly what motors do you recomend i need thrust lol

For a good paint you can also look at Faskolor, www.parmapse.com

It's for lexan bodies but works great on foam. Water based, can be sprayed with an airbrush, comes in all kinds of colors, and it's a flat finish. If you want glossy, just shoot it with their clear coat.
