Status: offline 		me and my friend disagree on something, i say that a good quality high performance engine made specifically for RC would by far outperform a random super cheap strimmer engine, he seems to think that they would both perform exactly the same, what do you guys think?

Status: offline 		They are not set up the same. They won't fit correctly in the first place. The R/C or Moped motor obviously is going to be better than a weedwackers' engine. As a great example look at the difference. Weedwackers are about what $120-$150? The R/C or Moped engines are worth about $120-$400(not sure about the minimum)? You get what you pay for.

Status: online 		One would think the porting and machining would be more aggressive and of higher quality in purpose built RC engines as well. Basic weedwacker engines are built for reliability and basic performance, no one tries to milk out every last bit of power out of them.

Status: offline 		You're right and your friend is wrong. These R/C engines are ported differently and also run tuned pipes which make a lot of different. Your friend ever see a string trimmer or chain saw with a tuned pipe? Maybe those lumberjack competition chain saws but not ordinary ones. My 30cc string trimmer is rated at 1 hp. My 26 cc Baja engine probably puts out 2-1/2 to 3 hp. Unfortunately they don't give your the hp rating of that engine.

also, all these crappy clones that are coming out and copying FG, are their engines going to be exactly the same or will they be inferior too? guess which i vote for

depends some weed wackers are case reed valved and perform much better than a rc style engine

Comparing apples to oranges. Remember where a Zenoah engine came from ????? That right a trimmer engine rated AT 1.7 HP. You can get a trimmer engine to preform well modified capmpared to a old stock Zenoah engine g2D. The new engines are bigger and better but a good commercial trimmer can still put 2+ hp out stock. Your just going to pay for it to get it. It's just easier to get a stock Zenoah. I have homelites that put out 2 hp stock 30cc.

by your statement above, your right, a hi perf rc engine will out do a cheapie trimmer.. trimmers from what I understand and as sheograth pointed out are made for durabilty and more towards user friendliness although that isn't always the case , they aren't designed for full on rpm, some here have started to turn a generalisation into a specific argument..there might be some good weeder motors that would be comparable..honestly I dont know..dont pay that much attention to trimmer motors

even though its been brought up that zenoah started out as a weed wacker..well..then they developed an engine for a very different purpose

Status: offline 		trimmer engines are purpose built. a weed whacker isnt going to need five hp, but, if you find one with a good bottom end and port it for power you would be suprised.
