I know how to adjust pitch on the heli if I needed too, but is there a proper way to set the main blades to 0 degrees

Don't worry about it. We were all asking the same questions at some point.

That I can't help you with as I've never used the pitch gauge. I've always set up my blade pitch according to this website and it's worked pretty well for me.

I always set mine up in Idle up mode. Since the pitch should be 0 degrees at half throttle in Idle up so the top and bottom pitch are the same. I just put the pitch gauge at the end of the blade then go to half throttle then adjust the gauge until the flat part of the frame is parallel with the flybar. Then there should be a pointer on the gauge that should point to degrees.

I was checking mine, in normal mode, with throttle at zero, both blades read about -1 pitch, which I think the book says. not sure if thats the right way to do it but thats what I did lol

The reason it's suggested to unplug both motors and set your pitch to 0 with the transmitter in idle up and the throttle at mid stick is so you will have and equal amount of positive and negative pitch. It'll probably work the way your doing it but just make sure that you have enough pitch to get the heli off the ground but not so much that it bogs down at full throttle.

Hey Def,

I have had good luck just setting the pitch in normal mode, since I never use idle up anyways, I'm sure later on, as I get better and more into the idle up/aerobatic thing, I will adjust it in idle up...

I usually try to end up with nearly zero or maybe 1 degree negative at zero throttle, and about 11 degrees or so at the top of the stick travel. I don't like to have much negative in at the low point, because when you chop the throttle suddenly, as newbies like us are prone to do, it will force the heli into the ground faster than with zero pitch...

As long as you are in the ballpark, you should be good...

Did you figure out the flybar weights OK? And the paddles-to-flybar frame relationship?

Let us know how you are doing, and don't worry about asking too many questions, we don't mind helping out, we were there too... and for me, it wasn't long ago!!

Take care,

Glenn

Hey Def,

The blades I am running and really love are from Helidirect, do a search for HD1141....they are $8.00 a set...the holes are too big in the blades, but they give you nice, perfect size brass eyelets to go in the blades to fit the CP Pro grips and blade bolts. The modding involves sanding or filing a small amount of material off of the inboard end of the blades ( I used a file, took maybe 5 minutes for both blades) so that the blades can swing freely in the grips/holders. Not a big deal, really.

I really do like these blades, the price is right, and the fact that they are heavier than the stock blades adds stability to the heli. I flew mine again today, and it flies like a dream with these blades...I had a hard landing, but did not have another tailboom strike like before, I think that was a fluke of some kind.

There are also many types of plastic blades out there, but I have been avoiding them...the biggest drawback is that they are so strong, when you DO hit something, which you WILL, it transfers alot of the impact to other parts of the rotor head, main shaft, spindle, servos, etc....I would rather replace a few sets of blades than main shafts, spindles, servo gears, etc when I crash, so I stick with wooden blades, they tend to absorb alot of the impact of a blade strike.

The service from Helidirect has been awesome, I highly recommend them!
