Hey Def,

Well, you won't guess what I came home with from the LHS today... A brand new CPP! They had them on sale, I guess getting rid of the CPP's to make room for the CPP2's. I got it for $169 out the door, so I was happy!

I plan to use it mostly for spare parts, or when I crash my existing one really bad. I have already learned alot from it. I am having some problems with mine, so I needed a new one to compare some stuff.

I flew it today, completely stock, no flybar weights or anything...what a handfull!! I had forgtten how responsive and twitchy the stock CPP is right out of the box! I flew it around the shop at work a little, but I really want to try it outside. It's just been too windy to take it outside for a test flight.

Did you get your blades, just not have time to put them on and fly?

I am waiting on new servos for my "old" CPP, I mananged to break them somehow... they still work, but have too much slop, and don't respond like they should.

I have a CX2 also. It's a pretty good indoor heli. I still like it, but I found an indoor heli that I like a LOT better, the Hirobo XRB SR...it costs more, and is probably more fragile than the CX2, but it flies sooo much nicer than the CX around the house. It is a very, very precise flying little heli. But it uses styrofoam blades, which are pretty fragile. If you think you'll be bumping into stuff alot, maybe the CX2 is a better choice. Also, the parts are much harder to find for the Hirobo. Just though I'd mention it. I absolutely love mine, and would trade my CX2 for it anyday!

Hope you get out and get some flying time in!

Take care,

Glenn

Hey Def,

That sounds cool, and the indoor flying will help alot with orientation, which is a key to flying any heli. I have learned alot from my CX2, it definately helped me learn. Hopefully, you will enjoy the new indoor heli. The coaxial helis are much easier to fly, for sure. Plus, you can fly it even in bad weather, wind, and such.

Yeah, my "fleet" is getting pretty big...from first to last; CX2, CPP number one, B400, B400 number two, Hirobo XRB, CPP number two. Six. Hmmm, I didn't even realize I had that many now that I think about it!!

Hope you get some time to install the blades and fly the CPP soon.

Enjoy the good weather, it's windy and stormy alot here lately.

If you want to hear firsthand about the 2.4g Lama, shoot Dave (choppersrule) a PM. He has one and loved it last I heard.

Def,
Just wondering why you opted for the Lama over the CX2. It's been a great little heli for me. It really helped me with orientation and I still fly it inside on rainy days when I can't break out the CP. The other great thing about it is parts availability. I've really never had a problem getting parts locally for the CX2 while I know my local hobby shop doesn't support the Lama. Just food for thought. In my experience though, the CX2 will almost fly itself when properly trimmed and this can be a great asset when learning side in and nose in hovering. If you get a little disoriented, just let go of the right stick and the heli will usually settle itself down. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trashing the Lama. I have a friend who owned one (before he blew it to smithereens charging the lipo in the heli - but that's another story) and they do fly nice. It's just that the CX2 is a little sportier and depending on where you live, may be easier to find parts for.

Hey Def,

Good for you! I told you this hobby is addictive, didn't I?? LOL I think you will enjoy the CX2 alot, I know I did/do. It will help you with orientation, and you can be more relaxed flying it. It is also a good bet, because of the great parts availablity. There are lots of hop up parts too, but you really don't need them. The only thing I did to mine is a motor heat sink, and the aluminum top bearing holder. Otherwise mine is completly stock. I have 3 batteries for it, so it keeps me busy for a while when I do take it out to fly it.

I still cover the LCD TV screen, I definately DON'T want to hit that, even with the CX2 blades. They are hard/sharp enough to do some damage to things. I also have to lock the cat up in my bedroom, for her safety. She thinks she can swat the rotor blades and get away with it!!! LOL Mine still flies well, I have a whole bunch of extra blades that I bought with it, I must have 8 extra sets, upper and lower. I don't crash it much these days, gotten alot better with it.

Well, I flew my new CPP outside today. Let me tell you, I don't envy you one bit!! I had forgotten how hard it is to fly a totally stock CPP!! I was having a hard time with it, but it was flyable, no crashes or anything, just a handful to control. It probably didn't help that I had just gotten done flying the B400...

It makes me realize just how flyable/stable I have made my original CPP, it flies much better than stock, not nearly up to the B400 standards, but it flies very, very well for a small collective pitch heli.

I think the new blades for yours will help calm it down some, and hopefully, you got around to installling the extra flybar weights, which will also slow things down a bit. The biggest thing I noticed flying the stock one, was how hard it was to keep a steady altitude. The throttle on mine seems super sensitive.

How is the CX2 flying coming along? Have you had a chance to fly it around the house yet?

Good luck with it, and congratulations, you are now officially addicted to RC helis !! LOL

Glenn,

EatToMuchRice had a video of his dog trying to knock his CX2 out of the air. I wonder what happened to him. I haven't seen him on here for a while.

Hey Nick,

Yeah, my little cat is too curious for her own good! She's quite interested in the helis, but she doesn't understand that they can hurt her...so I keep her away. Maybe if she got a little taste of one....

It's funny, she'll attack and eat moths, and other bugs...but if she sees a wasp...she'll keep her distance!! I'll bet a wasp taught her a lesson one day!! LOL

She is a great cat, but sometimes a little too curious...she will jump up on the table/workbench, and try to help fix the helis with me!! Needless to say, she just gets in the way...but cute nonetheless !

Take care,

Glenn

Glenn,

Cats are pretty cool. My neighbors cats will sit a good distance away from me and just watch me fly. Then when they get bored they just leave without bothering me.

I have a cp pro and a 400. If you are going to start with about $250 I would wait till the end of the month and buy the cp pro 2 which has the 2.4ghz radio with spectrum reciever. I have found that the 400 is much more stable than the cp just because it is bigger and much easier to handle in the wind. They have the cp pro's for $149 right now. I would wait and get the pro 2 with the 2.4 and the direct drive tail motor it last's a lot longer and make the bird more stable. Just an opinion but that's what I would do. Good luck and have fun learning this fantastic sport. Mike

hey rotarydoc, those blades you told me are a perfect fit to my cp pro, when I insert them into the blade holders they slide right in, no problem at all. Is that what you meant you had trouble with and thats the reason you had to sand them down a bit, because mine seem to be fine.
