Hello guys. I would like to get a good beginner rc car. I am not sure if I should get electric or nitro. I need something that is affordable.

I have found these 2 models and would like some input. Obviously they arent the best but I need something decent.

They're 'ok' for a first car, but I would honestly recommend spending more than that if you possibly can. In the same pricerange, look at the offerings from Himoto and Redcat racing. They are reasonably priced, and well supported on this very forum (as are Exceed), where all three companies have their own official support forums, hosted by the US distributors of the products.

If you wanted to try to find some more budget, in the one tenth stakes, check out the Duratrax nitro evader ST for a nitro, or the Tamiya Rising Storm (or any other of their fine 4wd electric offerings) for an electric.

The best advice anyone can give, is to spend as much as you can afford, even for your first car. What you're paying for, is the established brand, of course, but also customer service, support, spare parts and aftermarket availability. Consider also what your LHS carries spares for, as it's always a nightmare ordering online and waiting just looking at your broken truck (you WILL break it, sooner rather than later [;)]) while you wait for parts.

I would not suggest either one. It's obviously very low quality at $100/$120 for a ready to run. exceed is definataly a cheap company.
I wouldn't recomend a nitro, especially if your a beginner, because of the high maintenence and extremely high price of nitro which can easily be over ten dollars a quart. or maybe the Evader EXT. You can get them for $99 if you look around. Best hobby-grade RC for the money. Search Tower hobbies and you can get it for $120 there and you get a $10 coupon.

For 99.99 or less you can get a RTR Mini-T, it was my first RC and boy are those things fun.

amen to that about spending as much as you can on a newbe car[8D], minis are nice, but they can be limited to where you can drive and can be a hassle to work on... to decide on nitro or electric get a fell for your time to drive, your neighbors.... also go with what ya LHS carries a TON of stuff, like he says, don't get somethin ya can't easily get parts for[>:] and also check out if you have a local track, as it maybe fun to do a little racing on the weekends, check out what they got classes for... also ask what people run and get ideas from them[8D]

As Foxy said, you should seiously consider a higher budget; at least $200-$250 for your first RC. By all means, do not skimp in getting your first RC. The $100 RTRs look very appealing, but consider in mind quality, availibility of spare parts at the local RC store, and aftermarket upgrades. RCs are a daunting hobby and you want to spare yourself as much trouble as possible. You will constantly break stuff, even on an expensive RC (even more on a poor materials quality RC). So getting replacement parts fast and easily is a must.

I personally recommend Associated as a beginner RTR. You can find beginner RTRs for well under the $400 sticker shock. Also, Associated parts can be found in virtually ay local RC store, so if you break something, you can run to the srore and buy the parts in a matter of minutes (brands not carried in stores would require you to order on-line and wait for the mal). Just ask the clerk and he can point you to decent $200-$250 beginner RTRs.

Once you get along into the hobby, and you see what other brands people are running (and which ones are the better RCs and so forth), maybe then you can venture further into the $400+ RTRs or kits.

First RC I ever had would be the Traxxas rustler I think, you should get that one.

I'd go with something from Tamiya, myself. They've got some of the best cars to start out on.

If you are looking for a buggy, you really should look at Tamiya, they make so many good buggies.

It's been my experience that people trying to go too cheap end up with the greatest disappointment. I would worry that both of those you noted don't have much of a parts availability network, and that's the biggest problem especially when getting into RC is finding parts after you break something.

Agreed, if you are going to buy one of these cars, regardless of the responses you requested, then we are done here.
In case you are listening.
Were you able to find a real parts listing? I could not, I could only find a small list of 'upgrades', half of which were out of stock, and most of them were +$30(I couldn't imagine bying a $30 shock tower for a $150 car).

It's going to cost more in the end if you have to keep buying more parts. A good quality car like Tamiya probably wont break much if at all unless your extremely rough with it, and you can get a kit for a very low price. If you have to have a RTR Tamiya offers several of those to.
