i was hoping to be lazy and not reverse one of my parts, but that will just lead to more repairs I should be back in the air tomorrow.

Thanks for your help!

I can't believe I installed the rotors with the trailing edge forward What a dope! Odd thing was, it was very difficult to control, but I didn't crash and held it in the air. Granted it wasn't pretty. Im really lucky here! Geesh. Worse yet I had 2 exp heli pilots go over stuff w/me before trying and no one caught it.

I knew something was wrong with the odd sound and most of the throttle to keep her up. Thought I had a pitch problem. Seemed to track ok a ½ stick. Glad I put my pants on that day

well now I feel a little better

Actually im just happy the bird is back in the air. I still have some gyro issues to work on but playing it even just hovering is better then staring at it on the ground.

anyone suggest anything to help with my tail

I have settings

0 - 67
1- 50

What I think that means is in switch setting 0 this is heading hold mode. Setting 1 being normal.

Here is the condition. When in mode 0 (heading hold) I give a rudder input. The heli responds correctly, however when I release the stick the heli rebounds.

When in mode 1 (normal mode) upon spin up and lift to hover the spin to the left is so fast I cant control it. Even full right rudder input still doesn't make it controlable.

One thing I have noticed but havent figured out is sometimes on the ground throttle hold on, heading hold mode, I give and input it responds, I release, it goes back to center, then slowly walks futher down the shaft. I don't know what the cause of this is and if it is affect the condition listed above. I do know that it doesnt creep in normal mode, however, like i said I have no control in normal mode.

I have checked the belt for proper tension, I also have checked the gears of the cheap servo (crap).

I haven't played with the gain adjustment of the gyro. To be honest I don't know what I would be doing yet.

Open to suggestions. It flys pretty good otherwise, I just need to lock in the tail and I would have a great flying heli.

The gyro isn't supposed to creep in normal mode only HH mode. To set the gain start were you are at and slowly increase it until the tail starts to wag. Then lower the setting a little. Do you have any binding? Do you have full travel of the tail pitch slider? I have heard a lot of things about the tail blades spinning the wrong way. I don't know if that is your problem since I always make them spin up into the main blades.

i wasn't aware gyro creep was a normal condition. I have full range travel. The thing that bugs me the most is that after to turn the tail to a certain position, the release, the thing wants to rebound back. When it rebounds it doesn't go back all the way to where it was before the control input, but it does go about 1/2 way.

You still think this is something you can take care of with the gain?

what about rudder trim. I was told not to use it, but wasn't told why.

When it goes half way is this in normal or HH mode. When you have rudder trim with a gyro it sees it as having constant rudder input and you will always be correcting it. When you spool up do you do it fast or slow? Even on my GY401 if I do it to fast my helicopter will rotate a little to the left, then it will correct it self after a second or two. You can try adding more gain and see what happens. I don't have any experience with E-Flite gyros, so I am doing my best from knowledge of Futaba gyros.

many have recommended I use the gyro you are talking about. I might just do that.

I spool up pretty slow actually because I am kindof a newbie to this so I like to watch whats happening.

There are plenty of gyros just as good, but are cheaper. I just can't remember the names, but I know what they look like. It is good that you spool up slow. It isn't too bad of a problem on smaller helicopters, but once you get into bigger ones it can destroy the helicopter spooling too quick. On my ESC it has soft start so I don't have to worry about it. Without soft start I destroyed a main gear because I bumped the throttle.

Just remember the servo is just as important as the gyro, if I were going to spend money again I'd first get good tail then work on the rest of the servos. It's really worth it.

I still recommend the S9650 series and the Gy401 gyro all in all $180-ish well spent.

I have flown with the 9650 and like that with the GY401. Right now I like the 9257 the most.
