Nordy -> 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (5/13/2008 4:22:23 AM)

Earlier this evening, a friend and I were setting our 8T's up on the street for a final tune up. When we finished we decided to take our 1/8 Nitro Buggies out and duel, 5 minutes into the tussle his car came running at me and I tried to jump out of it's way but it hit my ankle, the moment after this happened my car was right behind it doing 40mph+ [:-] and I thought I had my finger pressed forward for braked but the shock tower caught the bottom of my foot (wearing sandles doh!) and it caused a huge cut as it passed under my left foot. [:(] [:(]

Anyway, 2 hours later I emerged from the emergency room with 22 stiches all thanks to us thinking we could control our cars on the street! A very valuable lesson learned here "streets are no good for racing even when you think it's clear because they aren't".

I have heard of people breaking ankles, legs from RC car's hitting them but never a few stiches from being hit by 2 cars at high speed!!! [X(]

Please remember if you have kids, make sure they are no where near the car's when driving them as we always tell our kids to stay well away and they do, I coulnd't imagine what would have happened if one of my 2 sons had been in the way. [:o] (keeping everything to the track from now on)

I week after I got into rc's that was around 1986 I hit myself with my hornet and ended up with 13 stitches lol that was from a plastic 1/10 electric. I can only imangine how bad a 1/8 scale would hurt. I've managed to not get hit since. Well now that I've said that I'll probably get hit again crap I just jinxed myself.

Nordy -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (5/13/2008 3:14:28 PM)

LOL to you comments guys LOL

Luckily I can work from home thanks to modern technology and I have decided to spend the rest of the week at home surfing the web for another Truggy LOL

Major bummer is our new track we have built was being prepped for our 1st run this weekend, I told my friend who hit me with his car that it's his job to turn over my cars this weekend for punishment LOL

I remember seeing someone get hit with a car at our local track at full speed in their thigh, he was lucky he had his cell phone in his pocket which took all the impact leaving his slightly bruised. Nothing left of his phone [X(]

IL2mSturmovik -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (5/13/2008 3:43:13 PM)

One of my 1st times on a track I hit a pal of mine in his shin going about 40mph with my LST2, it flipped him on his face

Foxy -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (5/13/2008 4:32:18 PM)

I saw a guy get his foot almost cut clean in half by a Kyosho Evolva doing about 55mph. He walked onto the track at the end of the straight, and nobody really ever found out why. Apparently he's ok now, he can still walk, but it was one of the ugliest injuries I've ever seen, some of the metatarsels and tarsels (little foot bones) were clean cut and sticking out at horrible angles (he was wearing flip flops, which are now banned at the track). The car was virtually undamaged. When I'm pitting and marshalling, I wear steel toed CAT boots, no matter what the temperaure is. It's funny, when I'm wearing shorts and a thin tee shirt, and those boots, I look like a golf club. lol.

Chopped02 -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (5/13/2008 5:42:29 PM)

I feel your pain. About 2 months ago, I was turn marshaling for my son during the 1/8th scale buggy A main when I ran out to flip a car and didn't see another buggy coming up on me. The car hit a jump at almost full speed and hit my left leg just below my knee. I was wearing jeans but the shock tower split my leg wide open. (jeans still intact)[&:] Now, I didnt need as many stitches as you did but man, that hurt!! I thought I was hit by Sammy Sosa swinging a Louisville slugger. The ER staff thought it was really funny that a "toy car" caused that much damage requiring stitches. Needless to say, I am way more aware of my surroundings now when I go out to marshal a race. Lesson learned. Get well soon. [:D]

slayerphonics -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (5/13/2008 5:44:12 PM)

A guy at our track was fliping cars at the big double 30ft jump. He went to flip a car over that was between the double. As he stood up someone hit the double and the truggy hit the guy smack in the face, cut his face wide open almost 40 stiches, and almost lost his ear.
Was a bad day at the track,

Vigilante212 -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (5/14/2008 12:09:32 AM)

Yea these RC cars people refer to them as toys, but thats kind of mislabling they are high powered scale models. And anything weighing 13 pounds traveling at 40 mph can do some serious damage. Sorry to hear about your foot, but you should be more careful and less reckless with your cars.

hkenvy91 -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (5/14/2008 2:04:36 AM)

well our track is right beside a school and park with a tall fence along the side with an opening to walk through at one end. anyways one day we were running a buggy a-main with about 10 buggys or so runnin!when all of a sudden this large labrador comes haulin butt through the opening in the fence, well i guess the dog was feelin like playin catch the cars and proceeded to run out on the track and started chasing all the buggies flyin by. well he didnt get hit luckily nor did anyone else, but it was soo funny watchin guys runnin around tryin to dodge buggies while tryin to catch the dog.come to find out the owner came runnin out of the fence apoligizing to us saying how he popped out of his collar while walkin him.

was just a funny story!

spikeman -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (5/14/2008 9:52:36 PM)

Wow [X(] I never realized many people get hit by rc cars. I've managed to only get hit once by a t-maxx with a aluminum bumper, but it was only going about 15 mph so I just laughed. It was his fault not mine I was just standind off to the side driving. Anyway sorry to hear about your pain. Hope you feel better.

calvino -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (5/15/2008 5:27:15 AM)

mxr -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (6/18/2008 7:15:18 AM)

When i was still living in France , on our local on road track i was running a serpent 1/10 impulse and a guy came out from the pit as i was coming full speed (around 55/60 mph) ,i tried to avoid him and doing so sent me directly taking off as i touched the inside of a turn and the car flyed all the way to the tables in the pit mecanic area ,poor Club Chairman was standing there and got hit in the knee by my car ,result was a broken knee and two month without walking ,needless to say that the idiot who came out from the pit without watching got banned out of the club for the rest of the season ...

that almost happened to me last race except i was runnin bac accross and saw it flying out of the corner of my eye and stopped short a foot from it , the truggy was headin for my shoulder , but my fast reflexes saved me

McFly505 -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (6/18/2008 7:07:11 PM)

I've taken monster trucks full speed into my legs, no fun at all, hurts like hell, but only bled a little bit.

I've taken several 1/10 scale trucks into my upper body/head at race speeds, no blood.

I've had a head on collision with 2 buggies and 1 truggy, head to head, little to no blood, but I thought Mike Tyson just punched me in the head or something.

Haven't broken any bones, shed a little blood, no stitches, etc.

I've always said I'd rather be lucky than good, any day of the week.

I always wear gloves when marshalling.
I think that is the only reason I still have all my fingers attached......

Sorry to hear about your injury.

Scott

ProRCRacer88 -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (6/19/2008 4:06:07 AM)

Sorry to hear about your injury Nordy.

I've had too many close calls from getting hit with all sorts of land rc's (except 1/5ths). I did get hit one time in the foot with a 1/10th onroad car going near full speed. Toe blead just a tad, torn a thin layer of skin off but thats it, it was all better in about a week. Thats the worst thats happened to me yet.

mx757 -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (6/19/2008 5:21:03 AM)

the 1st race i ever did i was marshaling by this big double dounle section that puts cars about 5-6 feet in the air. it had this little dog leg thing in front of it. I was out the outside of the dog leg about 5 feet off the track, and just barely got out of the way of a truggy flying at my head at full clip. no fun.

Oasis TR -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (6/19/2008 7:40:59 AM)

Watched a guy get knocked out by a Full aluminum T Maxx..His buddy's car flipped over after the jump..he just stepped onto the track..never even looked and got hit on the side of the head..right by the temple..that T Maxx was going over 30..full throttle with a .21..we thought it killed the dude..he was out for over 5 minutes..I always look..now..lol

Foxy -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (6/19/2008 9:23:24 AM)

Count yourselves lucky you don't run one of these buggies... It's not as fast as an 8T, but at 26lb it will happily relieve you of one of your feet if it hits you at 35mph. The white monster beetle can hit 45mph with a good run.

ProRCRacer88 -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (6/19/2008 3:19:14 PM)

What buggy is that Fox?

Snaut Rocket -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (6/19/2008 3:56:03 PM)

Looks like a baja.
But i could be wrong[&o]

Foxy -> RE: 22 stiches thanks to 2 cars hitting me! (6/19/2008 7:36:41 PM)

It's the new 4wd Smartech Thunderbolt, but that's a discussion for the large scale forum. I didn't mean to start something here. Sorry guys. The car is not available yet (in a few days), I have one for review, which should be up on RCU magazine VERY soon. It's a good car, but lacks power out of the box, forgivable, since it's one of very few 4wd 1/5th scale cars. But, like I say, lets not discuss this in the truggy forum, if anyone has any other questions, please feel absolutely free to PM me.
