hello guys. First of all im a newbie to RC cars, been flying RC planes for the last 6 years or so, my question is how long is the life span on a TRX 3.3 engine before having to change it for a new one? as i can unsderstand from reading these forums it is like after 6 gallos of fuel or so but im not so sure about that? any help greatly appreciated. and also what else need to be checked or change after that runing time? im trying to get as familiar with these cars as I could, since here in my area we only have RC PLane Clubs and im going to try to make an off road track for these trucks and try to get some people racing \. any basic info, advise on this would be greatly appreciated, the more info the better! .

thank you gus very much, would be waiting to the info

I got 6 gallons through mine. It died because the air filter came off and some dust got sucked down the carb. I just traded it in for another TRX 3.3.

Unlike planes, rc truck engines operate in a very dirty environment so regardless of how much you spend on a motor, it's not going to last as long as a plane engine. Traxxas knows it's not going to last forever so they don't build their engines to last forever because dust and poor tuning are going to kill more RC truck engines than anything else regardless of how well you engineer it.

This is compounded by the fact that a lot of people's first nitro engine is the stock engine, so you have a lot of people running their engine through the wringer while they're learning the ropes of tuning, maintenance etc. Traxxas and HPI both have a nifty engine replacement program that saves you $$$ trading in your old engine for a new one.

After you've become a guru at these things, only then does it make sense (to me anyways), to invest in a better quality engine so you can get the most out of it. Picco, OS, Novarossi, RB all make great engines for monster trucks.

The average life of most nitro engines used to push a truck or car is an average of 100 hours.
If you use the revo every weekend and look after it, dont run lean and the like, you will get over 12 months of good power, at 20 to 24 months it'll be getting tired, new piston sleve or engine, which is usually the way to go.

A lot of it also depends on how well u treat the engine. If u run it too hot quite frequently, then obviously its gonna drastically shorten the lifespan of the nitro engine, but if u run it cooler, and run it a bit on the richer side, then u will get a bit longer lifespan. It also is dependent on what kinda quality control is used to inspect these engines because as we all know, not all of the nitro engines that come off the assembly line in the factory are gonna be a good one. There are those that unfortunately do slip by quality control and end up in the consumer's hands anyway and unfortunately thats where we end up having to deal with that misfortune.....

Thank you guys very much for the info it makes me understand these cars alot better, as for now im only running stock with the revo and jato. what running temp. would u guys recomend on these engines ?that would be considered taking care of the engine, ive been running it between 200- 220 F since thats what the guy at the hobby shop where i got the car recomended for break-in and said maximum temp. should not go over 250F. The revo almost have a gallon gone so this weekend im gonna probaly try tuning it some with the low end needle since i haven touch it from factory setting, and the engine would not idle for long unless im giving it some gas back n forth..........Any more advise on good tuning? would be happy to hear it the more the better since im a newbie to this, but im getting to like it alot and looking foward on forming a local club with some friends. so guys just tell all that info i need to know , and again Thank you very much for the help.
