Hi everyone,
I own 8mm titanium CVD's (pic show steel) and have just disassembled to clean them as I do every season, I have some excellent quality grease (Gorilla Dnawt) and was wondering if I should go ahead and lube them? If I can increase the life of my CVD's then it sounds like something I would do, btw I do use rubber CVD booties to seal them. So will this really increase the life of my CVD's?

Boots are always a good idea. Anything you can do to prevent dust getting in there will help extend their life. Titanium is not as hard or as strong as steel (thickness for thickness), so it will be important to keep contaminants out.

Lubing with a grease may not be a hot idea, as dirt and dust will stick to the grease, and wrk it's way into the CVDs moving parts, causing premature wear. If you do decide to grease them, the boots will be even more important. I'd say if you really want to increase their life, use graphite dust and boots. Graphite dust is a dry lube and will not attract dirt.

At the end of the day though, no lube of any kind and no boots is how most people run them. I don't know how much extra life you might get out of them by lubing and using boots. Not much, I would imagine, but if you're one of those people that likes to take every precaution, go for it.

Thank you for that very helpful reply! The only reason I can think of why others don't you booties and/or dry type lube is because you can always spray a high pressure air hoes to shoot out the dust and dirt after running. Using booties can be a curse as well, if dirt does get in there and you don't know about it... I'm still thinking weather I should just run them as they are so I can clean them out at will without having to disassemble. Well the way I've been doing it for over two years has been working out, theres no visible wear anywhere on the barrel & pin. Not even a smooth scratch.

I will always use booties, I will be trying some Graphite dust so not to atract dust. I''ll just have to check to see what condition the booties are in often.
