tommygun32 -> Radio, Battery & Power Management?? (5/13/2008 11:20:47 AM)

Hi there,

I'm looking at upgrading my cars' systems to digital. Either Spektrum DX3R DSM2 3 Channel Surface Radio, Futaba 3PM 3-Channel 2.4GHz FASST Radio System, or Futaba 4PK 4-Channel 2.4GHz FASST Radio System. What would be the most optimum, efficient and ease of use power supply for transmitter and car? What are the dangers i need to watch out for? And which digital servos would you recommend with those possible combinations.

Thanks and appreciate any of your input.

For what use? Bashing? Racing? Of these 3, the best is as we all know, the futaba 4PK but there is no need to buy such a system if you bashing. If you end buying the 4PK, welcome to the club [:D], i'm waiting for it in June.

When you mean servo with the possible combination, what do you mean? It depends on the car on what servo you'll put. Digitals are better than analog, but some fellows prefere to install analog servos because the digitals spend more energy than analogs and the most important, digitals are more expensive than the analog ones [;)]

If you are racing only I would recommend the Spektrum DX3R, Ace 1015 for steering and Ace 1013 for throttle/brakes. I am currently using the JR XS3, Hitec 5997 for steering and a stock kyosho for throttle/brake.

Well, let's be honest joydude, i have yet to actually see, hear about or go to a 'real' sanctioned race here. Most of what i do is probably considered 'bashing', but i'd like the freedom and flexibility to be able to race. I have the JR PROPO XS3, but i'm getting tired of the interference I face almost any time i turn it on. This place gets pretty 'noisy' sometimes. I always carry four sets of chips with me, but that can be a pain as well. Hence the desire to move up to spectrum for all the cars.

Osiris - I'm running two models at the moment, Kyosho MP7.5 Kanai II with an OS VZB VSPEC (black head), Hong Nor EFRA 2062 tuned pipe, JR R200 receiver and JR ES 519 servos for both throttle / brake and steering. My other car is a basher XTM X-Terminator XT2 RTR with stock engine and pipe and stock syris radio, receiver and servos, which i want to upgrade.

The next one is going to be the HoBao (Hyper) 8.5 Pro Kit. I'll probably pick that up before the end of the week. I haven't made up my mind yet about the engine, pipe or servos on that one. Any ideas for that, feel free to add your opinions. All ideas welcomed with open arms[:D]

I would say futaba transmitter/receiver. JR 9000 series servos. As for power/battery management, if your not racing there is no concern. You don't have to worry about it running for a specific amount of time during A-mains or qualifiers. If you are racing get a 1600mAh or higher will be fine for digital servos. 45 min to 1 hour on a full charge.

Thanks for taking the time hrdcoreglf...highly appreciated.

I heard some bad reviews for the DX radio. About Futaba, except that is my favourite in radio category, i never heard something bad. So, if you going to race, then buy the 4PK but is a little expensive, i hope you can buy such thing [:D]. As for bashing, go for the 3PM. It's a cheap, good 2.4 Ghz radio with 3 channels. I don't think that you will need further things. [;)]
