hey guys,

it has been 5 days now since i had my new revo3.3.. my first truck!! i still have not had it fired up yet mainly because of all the rain. so today i had a buddy come by that knows a lot more then me.. the ez start wand would not start the truck.. wouldnt even try to start.

my buddy is thinking it is the battery.. it is a brand new tower hobbies 1500 ,,7.2 battery... is it possible for a brand new battery to be devective??? i am sooooo disapointed!!! nice truck like this and i cant even play with it.. i used the stock charger that came with the truck and the light did stop blinking meaning the battery should be charged!! i dont have a volt ohm meter to check it.

so,, couldmi have just got a bad battery or could it be something else... thx,,jake

try charging it again. this happen to me before that it won't crank the engine for the first time. so i charge it again to reach the maximum voltage on the battery. i read your past forum, did you turn your piston to the bottom now?
one more thing check you wiring harness on the revo ez start make sure it is plug in and the blue wire towards the glow plug.

sounds like your engine is just super tight and EZ start can't turn it over like when my 3.3 was brand new.

I second this!!! Sounds like the engine just needs a little "kick start" so to speak. This is the same way mine was when I first tried to break it in as well. One thing that might help is when u are trying to crank it over, loosen the plug about 1/4 turn to release some of the compression from being so tight. Once the engine fires(if it does), then immediately tighten the plug back up....

when starting new engines with an EZ start always position the flywheel at BDC before you hit the button.....the EZ start needs to have a little help when turning over a new engine...once you get it broken in it will start it every time.

cool,,thx guys,, i went to the lhs and bought a new battery and the same thing happened.. i called traxxas and they told me to remove the glow plug spray a little WD40 in the hole.,,unstick the piston and then with the glow plug out crank it over for 60 seconds to lossen it up some.. well i did that and it did turn better but not to well..

so i called them back and from him just hearing it trying to start over the phone he told me the battery was not fully charged. he said i need to cycle the battery 2-3 times to get a full charge and i should be good to go.. it is just so frustrating.. here i am a newbie with a nice brand new revo 3.3 ,,had it 5 days and still have not got ot run it..

my battery is charging now.. i am just going to take it slow.. since a lot of you guys say you had the same or simualr problems i feel better now.. plus traxxas really seems to think it is just the battery and the new engine that is giving me the problems. thx guys,,jake

Dude Have you done anything that people have suggested in here? seems like your going at 100mph and not slowing down to take a look. Take a step back and breath a little you probably didnt need a new battery these guys have made some very simple suggestions.Keep one post open and stop opening a new thread every 5 minutes this way you can see what everyone is suggesting instead of opening a new thread every time.

it is man...just slow down and be patient with it and you will get the best results.....the performance of your engine over its life depends on what you do to it while breaking it in.....another tip is to heat it up with a hair dryer until it is warm to the touch...this will expand the metals to allow it to start easier.

+100.. For any new enine you should heat it up for abouta min or so and then go ahead and try starting it. One thing I keep seeing suggested but nobody explains how to do is place the piston at BDC(Bottom Dead Center). For this you need to actually take off the exhaust(header.. 2 screws on the back of the motor) and look at the piston(through the exhaust port) while you turn the flywheel. Once you see the top of piston, take a black sharpie and put a mark on the bottom of the flywheel. Then after every run, you will need to make sure that mark you made is at the bottom.

Here's a link on how to break in the motor via heat cycle(also shows you how to mark BDC):Clicky

Here's another link to the heat cycle break method. Heat Cycle method 2.

guys,, thx,,, but i do listen and do EVERYTHING you guys suggest.. i even had a guy here that has been doing this for 3 years.. he thought i had a bad battery, turns out it nevr fully charged as the charger said it was.. needed more cycles..

but i did,, make sure the piston wasnt stuck,, i did move it to bdc and tried again,, i did heat the engine up with a hair dryer before i tried to start it.. i called traxxas and had them walk me through it.. so i do hear and obey.. i am in no hurry to ruin a 500 dollar truck.

so this guy i met here took the battery back to his house.. he lives about 30 miles away so he couldnt just come right back with his wand and batteries.. so then i went and bought a new battery just incase and tried all you suggested and what traxxas told me to do..

it turns out that my battery just needs to have 2-3 cycles to get it to a full charge,, that and being the engine is new is why it is not starting.. so PLEASE dont be mad at me.. i do listen,,,that is why i ask.. and i dont post every 5 minutes! i have made about 6 post total in the truck section and 4 out of 6 were for different questions,, not problems. 2 of the post did relate to this. if i didnt want to listen to you guys i wouldnt ask for advise. and i only open up the new threads for a couple reasons.. one is so that the guys that already answered my question will get to read my questions again.. and i also start up new threads to avoid problems.. preventive maintence sort of>> thx,,jake..

p.s.. i do appreciate the help.. but please dont think i do not listen or take your advise because I DO!! I DO EVERYTHING YOU TELL ME TO TRY. it is only when they dont work that i repost. all you guys were new at one time and i bet you got a little frustrated too. i only started this new thread because i was told by my buddy that it was probably the battery.. thats all i ask on this thread,, that was the tilte of the thread. can new batteries be defective? now i know i probably pissed some of you off and you will never help me again.. i hope that is not the case.. jake

no worries man....i just didn't want to see you get frustrated as this will cause the problem to snoball...cause when you are frustrated you can't think properly...well at least I can't LOL......once you get a full charge on the battery...do all the steps that have been listed and it should fire up....keep in mind it will run like crap until the break in is done and it is tuned for performance.

I.m curious about what kind of charger you're using, a good peak charger or just a cheap wall charger, and if the xtra batteries you purchased were the same small mAh cheap low-powered ones as what came with the truck?
