take yours off and try driving with out it

I wouldn't run my truggy with out one, I never said it did nothing, I just said I don't think it makes your truck fly different in the air, the rotation of the tires out weights the effect of the wing in the air,

Well if you dont think it makes a difference in how the truggies jump why run one..Take the wing off and see how it jumps..it makes a HUGE difference in how your truck jumps. I started out in off road running stadium trucks and 1/10 buggies..on the 1/10 trucks we never ran wings but we did run spoilers on the back..have one come off during a race and you were pretty much done for that race, it would not jump well and you did not have very good traction in the back. areodynamanic play a much bigger role than what you think..

1. Aspect Ratio:
The amount of downforce produced by a wing is determined by its size. The larger the wing the greater the downforce. The length/width ratio is called the aspect ratio. The higher the aspect ratio, the more efficient the wing. The aspect ratio is the span of the airfoil (the long dimension perpendicular to the airflow) divided by its chord (the dimension parallel to the airflow).
2. Angle of Attack:
The efficiency of a wing is its downforce/drag ratio. The amount of downforce generated is dependent upon the angle or the tilt of the wing. The angle of attack is greater on a road course rear wing setup than on a speedway setup. The greater the angle of attack, the more downforce and drag. The angle of attack and the size of the rear wing will vary from road, short oval and speedway setup.
3. Drag:
While increasing downforce a wing also increases unwanted drag. Drag increases with the angle of attack. The downforce generated by the wing works in a vertical, downward direction, while drag acts in the opposite direction.

If anyone doesnt think that a wing does anything.... take your wing and wing mount off your rc car and hold it in your hand, out the window of a 1:1 scale vehicle..... even at 30 mph you can feel the serious down pressure caused by the wing.
A wing is VERY functional, and is there for a REASON.....not just for looks

You guys have to realize that while a wing might help keep your truggy planted, The body of a truggy is hardly aerodynamic and will probably cancel any affect of the wing. But heck in no way am I saying don't run a wing, it looks better and adds protection. University here has a few wind tunnels, Ill see if I can get the truggy in there and get some data.

I agree with Slayer TR who said -"You can tell the guys that race and the ones that dont..The ones that dont race..naw you dont need a wing..the guys that do race KNOW that a wing works..even on a small track..contrary to popular belief the top pros are not going to put something on their buggies and truggies that does not have a purpose..so "if" they dont work why do the top pros use them?"

Pros who race little toys around! Do you think they honestly have any idea if the wings make a difference besides protecting their sweet paint jobs? Probably not. I do race and honestly can tell no difference with or without a wing. Like I said I will try to get the truggy in a wind tunnel and that will give us something to really base our arguments on.

how many of you tried to drive with no wing mine fell off and it would fishtail like crazy on acceleration and you could barely control it.

chedster..I do know quite a few pros and to be brutally honest they have more of a "clue" on this subject than what you do..I also have a hard time believing that you really race..if you did your opinion would be different..But I guess that assuming you know what your doing..I hate to be argumentative..but..

It's so easy to make judgments on the internet, I highly doubt you know any pros anyway.

Use to be one..It's easy to make judgements when you make replys such as this.." Pros who race little toys around! Do you think they honestly have any idea if the wings make a difference besides protecting their sweet paint jobs? "I do race and honestly can tell no difference with or without a wing".

Apparently, any usefull discussion that could have been had here has taken place. Seeing as how almost everyone agrees that a wing is beneficial to at least a certain degree, I had hoped the least we could have done was discuss to what extent. But, since we cannot get past putting each other down, this discussion is closed. Its too bad too, because we have some engineers on here who could have probably elucidated us on some specifics of the downforce of a 1/8 wing etc.
