To echo what Druss said, start with a good ARF kit and set it up according. With the DX6I on the market under $200 you can build out a great heli at some super decent pricing. I fly a blinged up HBKII, kitted out with all the goodies, CF boom, fins, Hitec and Futaba servos, she is just over $400. Now my CopterX, HS65MG's, Futaba S9257 tail servo, telebee HH gyro, AR6100rx, running stock copterx motor and esc comes in just a little over $500. Both of these started as barebones kits, then I kitted them out with components that reflect my flying style. If you have the funds ARF is the way to go.
