I'd ask Bob at DLUSA see what he suggests.

I believe, as I know many others do, that lubrication is this engine's friend. I've not run leaner than 40:1 Pennzoil. The engine with 40:1 Penn has done very well, and I don't see a personal benefit to going leaner (or going synthetic).

Beyond personal preference, I turn to the guy that is warranty-ing the engine. Since this is my first twin, I will be conservative with it.

I like 50:1 Penzoil only because it's easy to mix 4oz = 1.5 gallons of gas

Any problem going to Amsoil at 80:1 after break-in on this motor??

I always use what the Oil manufacture recommends. I'm breaking mine in on 32:1 Penzoil, and will switch to 40:1 after that...

Jake, I bought 2 cases (48 bottles) of the 8oz bottles... I have a 2 1/2 gallon Jersey fuel can.. 1 bottle + 2.5 gals of gas...

It's tough to botch that... With that said, I did botch it last year.... Ouch... bearings do not like Penzoil at 80:1

Any reason to do this?

Some people have no problems with that oil, others have tragic results. The problem is likely in setup (AIRFLOW) and tuning more than anything else.

I have been successfully running Amsoil at 80:1 for years in my DAs and they run as strong as ever, it is also what DA recommends.
Just thought if it was good for the DA, it would be fine for the DL. I'm just trying to avoid having to buy another fuel can set-up.

Growing up here learning imperial measurements and then converting to metric . . gotta love this metric stuff.

50:1 = 100ml oil to 5000ml (5 liters) of gas (5 liters is approx 1.25 US Gal). . Yep . . pretty easy that. Don't need no calculator to work out any ratio you want.

haha we did that in Canada as well... I haven't lived there for 8 yrs now.. when I go back and have to order something like lunch meat I have no idea how much meat I want in grams

The only thing I can do well without thinking about it is the temp. I am always translating it on the phone without thinking about it

I understand the one-fuel concept. I think Bob at DLUSA uses Saber at 85:1. Since he is warrantying the engine you should be fine.

Maybe after the move (New England to Seattle) I will think about it. I need a house big enough for a big plane I guess. Add that to the shopping list!

Eraser, I only questioned the Amsoil because it is the third rail of this forum. Like I said, some have no problems at all while others have minor to major problems.
