jp473 -> Showoff! You know you want to. (5/15/2008 2:01:46 PM)

I’ve often started searching the net for others that enjoy this hobby along with photography. To see what people are doing, how they are doing it and so on. So, I’ve just completed my first attempt at multi tasking my limited flying ability with a crude attempt at cinematography. [:D] Ok, I not a famous but I showed you mine, now you show us yours.[sm=thumbup.gif]

DrunkYoda -> RE: Showoff! You know you want to. (5/15/2008 3:07:02 PM)

The vid was good but we only saw half of the heli most of the vid.

Try again with the camera pointed down a bit and we'll get to see the bird.

Other than that you did pretty good. What was factory if all that stuff was trex? :) LOL

jp473 -> RE: Showoff! You know you want to. (5/15/2008 3:36:40 PM)

It was not my intent to start a blade/rex war. Just show us your stuff. If you have the feathers from a dodo bird attached to your rotors and it works for you, why not. I saw one with a squirrel tail on a cx with a hand painted canopy. Hay Bullwinkle, a real flying squirrel.
I like the smother flight of the align 325 wood blades. They flex less and cost the same as stock. Much smother rotation with less drag. The tail fin was to give a little extra length and support so the tail rotor won’t bite the ground on a tail strike. The feathering shafts, well, necessity being the mother she is…everyone was out of stock shafts and the align not only fit but are stronger. As for the canopy, I just prefer the shape. And I’m not trying to imitate a rex, just found a few things I like and used them to enhance my bird. It’s still a Blade 400
And yes, next time I get someone to give me a verbal reference of the framing limits

Now...show us yours.[:)]

Sorry if you intended this to be a video thread, but here's some still pics.

Hey Wolf, Whens the party at your place? You always have the greatest views in your pictures.

Wolfpackin -> RE: Showoff! You know you want to. (5/15/2008 6:06:33 PM)

It's always a party here.[:D]
OK, when I'm not working at one of my two jobs.[;)]

...a small price to pay for living in paradise.
Thanks for the good words.

Keep your eyes out for pictures of the local flying field I just discovered.
I'll post them as soon as I can get some, if it ever stops snowing.[:@]

pics, vids what ever you got. Howed you get that bumble bee stinger to stay on? Tail rotor looks larger. Is that for the thin air maybe?l

evdreamer -> RE: Showoff! You know you want to. (5/15/2008 8:32:58 PM)

Here is some videos of me flying my Belt CP and CX.

Aha, to make this on topic I found an old video of one of my first flights with the Blade CP [:)]

I used my fly tying tools to wrap a thin gold wire around the stinger and the little tab that sticks out from the bottom of the fin.
Then I used clear epoxy to strengthen the wire wrap and stick it to the bottom of the fin.
It has survived several hard landings so far.

I'm using K&B tail blades with Align grips, the blades are too thick for the stock gips.
I was indeed trying to get more thrust fom the tail because of the altitude here, but it didn't make much of a difference if any.
The K&B blades are much more durable and I like the yellow so I'll stick with them.
Both the grips and the blades are longer than stock.

BTW, I was going to add some black stripes to the main and tail blades and call my heli the Wolfpackin Wasp.[:D]

Here's a closer pic of the tail stinger.

H3li -> RE: Showoff! You know you want to. (5/16/2008 12:02:50 PM)

jp473, nice effort with the video - after a few more vids you will have the multi-tasking sorted! ;)

I've seen some vids where the guy has taped the camera to the hat he was wearing, so it always followed the Heli !
Best way really is to get a mate or partner to stand next to you and THEY do the recording, while you concentrate on the cool maneuveres with your Heli :D

Also take a look on YouTube, do a search for "blade 400" and you'll find LOTS of cool vids.

H3li -> RE: Showoff! You know you want to. (5/16/2008 12:05:40 PM)

EDIT : I could post a vid of me flying my CX2 inverted / tunnels / corkscrews etc, but that would just be showing off! :D AHEM.
Then there's my MT - which believe me, you WOULD want to see doing these things - but as its not E-Flite I'm not aloud to talk about it here! :D

Nice flying videos and photos guys! Even more motivation to move up to a single rotor bird.

I wish I'd had a video of what lead up to this crash! It literally took a day to find the last piece that was hiding under a cloth pad on the table. You shoulda seen the lamp though, lol. Needless to say damage didn't stop with the blades.

Wolfpackin,
You said "Keep your eyes out for pictures of the local flying field I just discovered.

It stopped snowing on this side of the pass (again!) yesterday. I searched RC outlets for wing 'n blade de-icer for you, but to no avail. [:D] Can't wait to see pix of the field, or come over and see it myself!

Hi xyster101,

I was going thru some older threads just yesterday. One was rice's hover challenge ( http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=12337 ). But it looked like you removed your entry from utube. I was disappointed it wasn't there. Anyway, that lead me to seeing the first two you just listed.

But I hadn't seen this last one, "Heli vs Tree." That was great flying considering the wind and turbulance up there..and a good narration. Did I sense white knuckles on the stix when it "landed" lol? Care to tell us the rest of the story, or did it become a permanent tree ornament? [:D][:D]

Care to elaborate some on how you found a scale for 30 and showoff, uh, I mean, share a picture?
On the “ if I had a camera man” Yesterday I was showing a friend of mine my somewhat limited skills and well, you know how that will turn out. lol. Anyway, the bird wanted to nest in this ill placed piece of foliage (tree that has it in for me) and disappeared behind some cars. I hit throttle hold in order to minimize the damage upon impact as it disappeared from site. My friend starts LOL and we go to survey the damage. Well you won’t believe it and I don’t blame you but the darn thing made a perfect landing on the sidewalk. Turned off throttle hold and spun her up. Not so much as the slightest vibration. Feeling lucky we went and bought a lottery ticket. And guess what. My luck had run out. Wasted 2 dollars but the experience was priceless.

xyster101 -> RE: Showoff! You know you want to. (5/17/2008 5:58:18 AM)

Thinair,

Well, it was a bit boring and was getting bad comments because it was just regular hovering with a spinning copter. If you want I can put it back up there for ya! :)

ThinAir -> RE: Showoff! You know you want to. (5/17/2008 7:34:28 AM)

No need to go to any trouble. I've seen your good flying. Still curious how you got your bird out of the tree though. It was hard to tell in the video just how high up it was. At least a cat will come down on its own when it gets hungry enough, lol.

jp473,
I'm hearing here that trees like to reach out and grab unsuspecting helis. Yours, xyxter101's, and probably others too. Great story, except for the losing lottery ticket.[:o]
