Does anyone know what AX stands for. I have searched OS's page but have not found any info.

I'm going to gues here...this is not fact just my guess....
fact there was an FP, an FX, now the AX.
My guess it's a model designatior..kinda like a KC-130F vs. KC-130R..both are 130's that perform air to air refueling the R model has enough up grades to it that it isn't an F model anymore. hope that isn't too confussing
with the AX the muffler is different and so is the high speed needle valve...

Well, since there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the sequence, I would go on the guess that it means nothing.. just something to signify that it's different from the FX, FXi, SF, and so on. But I have been known to be wrong from time to time.

I used to have the motto that went something like this: "I made a mistake once, I thought I was wrong". But that changed when I turned 23 and got married... [:D] And, yeah, that was a long time ago!!! [:@] [:D]

I agree with what's above; it doesn't say anywhere on OS's website, nor in my 46AX manual, what the AX stands for. It does say that it is a new version of the FX with several positive changes.

You're right about that, Cat. I have a few of the older designs, and the AX is a powerhouse over the equal or even larger counterparts, and seems to run better and start much easier. As with anything, time will tell.

I would have like to have seen them keep the sx around or at least the fx, Os now has nothing for the go fast crowd (the ones that don't want to drop the $$ on nelsons or jetts)

What about 55AX? Same size as .46. I think you'd go pretty fast!

55ax is a good engine but if you really want to go fast you have to 'over square' (i think thats the term) the prop it really cant turn more than 13k maybe 14 with a tuned pipe but still not the 16k+ engiens of the past, there are reports of the sx (32) doing over 18k

But definitly a good engine got one on a gp super sportster 40

The .55-AX is a GREAT engine but it does run a little differently than the .46. I own both and the .55 definitely has more torque. It will turn a larger diameter or higher pitch prop than the .46. It won't quite make as many RPMs though. I would consider it more of a stump puller than an all out racing engine. Both the .46 and .55 are excellent though. You can't go wrong either way. There is only one two stroke I like better: the .75-AX. Of course, I haven't tried the 1.20 yet.

Just a model designation. I think it's like LE, GT and SE in car models; that is it looks good on the side of the engine, no one else was using it, and nothing more.

I dunno about that, Freak (and I mean that in the nicest possible way!), I've got a .46AX on my Mustang, and we've got many doppler passes of it turning 17.5K or so on the front line, and about 16.5K on the back lines (after some mild climbing outta the trees....)

It's a strange thing, on the ground it's taching right about 13K, with an MAS 11x6. In the air, it almost instantly unloads as it climbs out, and then once she's levelled off, it acts like it comes "on pipe" and ramps the revs up even more. It is achieving over 95mph (yup, with an 11x6!), and screamin' real well. This behavior started when the baffle was lost due to draw bolt failure. Acts just like it's on a tuned pipe.
