Hey guys, there is a new radio of Futaba, the 10C 2.4 Ghz. Leave the price out of that thread, i know already that it hurts, that much cost me the futaba 4PK for my car.

Well, i just went to towerhobbies and notice that they are 2 types of that radio (10C 2.4 Ghz), the heli mode and the air mode which is for planes. What are the differences? I have both plane and heli. Which i must choose? I'm confused. Why they released such modes. I remember that the 9C have them both in one radio. What's going on?

Actually there's a 9CAP and a 9CHP the A is aircraft and the H is helicopter.

The difference is in switch position and throttle ratchet. The software is identical. For helicopters you want the smooth throttle which is fine (better in many cases) for airplanes. Also the switch layout is somewhat different with the flight mode (idle up) switch on the top left of the helicopter radios where most heli pilots prefer it.

Rule of thumb, if you're going to fly or plan to fly helis, get a heli radio.

As far as I can tell the only difference is the default mode when you set up a new airplane. The Heli will default to heli programming and the air will default to airplane programming.
It looks like both will fly heli or air.
The air has ratcheting throttle stick the heli is non ratcheting
Here is the manufacturers web page:

On the airplane radio as you advance the throttle you feel a clicking. You can give 3 clicks of throttle.

On a helicopter radio the throttle/collective stick is smooth. What happens is when hovering a helicopter will often climb slowly one click up, descend slowly one click down. With a smooth throttle stick its much more precise. This is the same reason that many 3D airplane pilots fly helicopter radios, very precise throttle control which is desireable while hovering and torque rolling.

@missleman....the switch placement is different on the top of the radio. I dont remember if the 10c has modular switches like the higher end radios or not. Tony Stillman brought one to a club meeting for a show-n-tell and the top left switch was 2 position and the 3 position was on the right. Thats opposite on a heli radio.

Ok, got my answer. Is not very different than yours.
Here is the question:

I have a question about the 10C 2.4 Ghz. I have a problem. I'm flying planes at the moment, but i'm entering the helicopter world too, so i want a radio all in one. The 10C has 2 modes. One for air (planes) and one for helis (helicopters). Which i must buy? What exactly are the differences. If i buy the heli one, do i have any problems or anything else?

And here is the answer:

Thank you for your recent e-mail.

The heli and aircraft version are the same internally and programming wise. The differences come down to the shoulder switches are reversed of one another and the throttle is a smooth ratchet on the heli version versus the clicking version found on airplane radios. And of course, cosmetically, the labels and faceplate reflect that it is a heli radio or aircraft radio. Both radios are capable of flying the same aircraft, helis or gliders. The programming is absolutely identical on both versions. You may also get a different receiver and servos. If you are going to fly both helis and airplanes you will want to purchase the heli version.

What extras? The price of the 10C (heli mode) and the 10C (air mode) is exactly the same.

Ah.. Okey doke. I was just joking here. Often, add words like "helicopter" to something immediately adds about 20% to the price.
