Status: offline 		My ziroli instruction say to strip stringers from sheet balsa.Is there a tool for this?Right now my best solution is setup a fence on the bandsaw and rip them down.Is the an easyier way?

Status: offline 		I got my Balsa Stripper decades ago, via Winsor at one of the Pasadena shows. They had some botched up ones, unpackaged for $1 each. The good ones were not yet on market, but would within one week. Other than blades going dull, it still performs OK.

Status: offline 		The best low cost stripper is the Master Airscrew available in most hobby shops. Now if you want a really good stripper order the english made stripper from Hobby Lobby International. It comes with a 39" channel you mount on your bench or in my case 3/8 fiberboard. The stripper rides in the channel with the balsa held against the channel so you get extremely straight cuts and you can make a lot of strips fast. It uses a No. 11 scaple blade (buy these on Ebay or a local farm or Vet supply store) that is sharper and last longer than a Xacto blade. I own both strippers and use both the Master Airscrew is faster to change strip widths so I use it when I just need one or two but I pull out the Hobby Lobby Stripper when I want to cut a lot the same size. Here is a link to the Hobby Lobby stripper http://www.hobby-lobby.com/planer.htm. They also have a handy all metal planer that uses a double edge safety razor blade that works pretty good. I own it too as well as the Master Airscrew Planer.

Status: offline 		You'll love the little Master Airscrew balsa stripper... if you customize it first. Let's look at the top and see the little marks in 1/8" sizes. Put a little white paint or 'corract type' on the RIDGES ONLY, using a tooth pick. Also put a dab on the single marker ridge on the slider. Now, turn it over and screw the knob so the blade holds a thin piece of paper against the frame.... this is "Closed" position. Don't turn too hard, or you'll bend the blade and loose the "Zero point". If you turn the knob about 1/8 of a turn.... 1/8 of 1/4 is 1/32...and 1/32 of 1/8" strip is... 0.0039" ... or, about four [4] thousandths of an inch, and the paper is only two thousandths thick, so it should have fallen out already. Turn the balsa stripper over again, and find the knob that you turned, and find the ridge or line ON THE KNOB that closest lines up with the single mark on the frame again. This is "ZERO". Paint both these marks white. Now, since the screw thread on the knob is 6-32... 32 threads per inch.... it will take four [4] turns of the knob to get 1/8" wider cut from the blade. Presto!! Yes, eight [8] turns will be 1/4". And 16 turns of the knob will be 1/2". So... if you're making a tissue glider from 1/16" stock, sand that stock a little and get something closer to 1/20" sheet, and cut your 1/8" strips at four turns open... = 1/8".... but in the theme of saving weight, you may just turn the knob three [3] turns for a little thinner... and 'lighter' strip.
So, now you have to know which way to turn the knob, so make a black arrow on a white piece of paper, and glue that to the slide on top... -> BIGGER
Now, you all know of those four ribs in the center of the wing that need to be 1/16" smaller than the others so the 1/16" sheeting will fit. And we know that if we start at the 1/8" mark and turn 'smaller' by TWO TURNS.. that's 1/16". So, a quick adjustment and you take 1/16" off the edges of those four standard size ribs. Job Done. Piece of cake!!
All in all, this is not difficult to "Customize" your balsa cutter, and it is NOT that dangerous, since 1/8 turn of the knob is only about 4 thousandths of an inch... .004". If you're off by two 'ridges' on the knob, that's only 1/16 of 1/64 of an inch.... enough arithmetic!!. Just "Git- Er- Done"!!
