Yes like carrellh said they are self tapping. The stock screws are flat tip and work fine but the socket heads in the link are even a little easier to work with.

I like to use the hole locator sold by Tower to mark the holes. Then the mount is clamped one beam at a time in a vice. The pilot hole is drilled then start the screw and drive home to the head with a screw gun and without the engine. Both beams are done this way and the screws backed out now the engine can be mounted easily but the screws will stay tight.

John

John, the socket heads were the first ones I hit when I was looking for a picture. In the first post he mentioned that all of the hardware got lost over the years, so he probably has to buy engine mounting screws.

Steve, the screws in the picture are Dubro. #4 x 3/4. Your local hobby shop, or any hardware store, should have #4 sheet metal screws that will work.

Absolutely Carrell the socket drive types are great. I nomally use the stock flat tips because I don,t have a socket bit for the screw gun. In the case of where you had a socket bit for a screwgun or were running them home by hand then the socket head would be even better.

Popriv here is the hole locator I mentioned earlier. A wonderful tool and not very expensive. It should be put in the catagory as one of those that makes you wonder how you ever survived without:

I wasnt sure what the mount was made of. sounds like its soft enough to drill a pilot hole then just screw it in.

I pulled out my glider and was woundering if it could be converted to electric ?

The mounts are made of glass filled nylon. They drill easily, but they're pretty tough on impacts.

I'm guessing you wanna make a motorglider out of her? You can either build a motor into the nose or build a motor pod to go over the wing. The limits your imagination.
