Don't forget the most important thing. Does your LHS have parts supply for the truck you choose. That should be anyones big factor. How fun would the LST be, if every thing you broke, had to be ordered in because the LHS didn't stock that part. Every hobby store around me stocks savage parts out the butt. The LST on the other hand, are alot more rare out here. I own a savage, and I love it. I bash the complete hell out of it, and it keeps coming back for more, and when I break something my LHS more than likely has the part in stock.

Good point...fortunatly parts for both trucks can be found in the DFW area...Hand it to the Savage though, parts are more plentiful for those rigs...

I think I mentioned it in my first post in this thread.. The cheapest fix for the Savage fuel tank problem (half tank lean) is so simple, so quick, so easy, and best of all it's FREE.

Tune the engine slightly rich.. that way when the mixture leans out at half tank you won't have any problems. The guys who cry the most about the tank are most likely the ones who tune their engines as lean as possible, then complain that their engine overheats and runs too lean at a half tank..... If you aren't like that it's not a problem....

The next cheapest fix is to put a piece of antenna tube in the hole on the underside of the fuel tank lid... where the tank gets it's pressure from the line coming from the pipe. Cut it to a length where it almost touches the bottom most part of the tank when the lid is shut. I did this on my SavageX 4.6 and it worked out just fine. There was some heated debate about this fix on the Savage Central forums- I decided to try it and was pleased with the result.

A $20 fix is to put in an OFNA fuel tank. Just requires a little bit of drilling.. Go to www.savage-central.com and do a search for OFNA Tank Mod. There is a good write up with pictures to walk you through the process. The downside is you lose a bit of run time because the ofna tank is 120cc instead of 150cc... Not racing? Just bashing? No big deal. If you really must have longer run times and fix the "half tank lean" you can do a "Mid Tank Mod".. Which enables you to put a larger fuel tank where the stock radio box is. Another thing an enterprising person can search up on the interweb.

The LST shock conversion is goodie stuff because the big bore shocks really smooth out the ride.. However you don't HAVE to use LST shocks to do so.. You can also use big bore buggy/truggy shocks....

As far as the stock suspension goes, it's not hard to improve it just by experimenting with different oil and springs. I put 35wt shock oil in my Savage and I have been happy with it.. It rides quite smooth.

On another note.. I'm envious of the guys who have shops that stock plenty of HPI/LOSI parts... Both shops near me deal mostly with @#$%ing Traxxas and thusly have a huge selection of TRX parts and just enough HPI/Losi stuff to say "yeah we have them..." Trying to track down some 2x5mm screws was fun.. I will hand it to one shop owner who dug around his inventory and found some screw kits for AIRPLANES that had the screws I needed.....

Have fun with your final decision, because either truck is a Win/Win.
