I know that people around here like to see videos of other people flying. I managed to talk my wife into coming to the field with me yesterday and she got the attached pictures and video.

Nothing special here, just working on orientations, FFF, hovering, and working my way to circuits and stall turns.

Enjoy!

Thanks! My wife's camea has a setting that is made for "moving objects" that helps a lot. It uses a higher shutter speed, among other things.

I have to say that my tail is very well locked in, it stays right on spot, even in fast backwards flight! Gotta love the GY401 / 9650 combo!

Nice shots/vid bro!

Hey, for that flight time, what battery and pinion are you using?

Using King Power 3S, 25C, 200 mAH packs on the Medusa 3400 kV motor with an 11T pinion. I know it's kind of strange, but this setup allows me to run 4S packs as well as the 3S packs. I get pretty highHS when running 4S (~ 3300), so I have to have good CF blades for this one. I am using Curtis Youngblood 325 CF's.

I'm going to experiment with using governor mode on this puppy soon. The video shows me flying in ST-1 (Idle up 1) mode with a 100-85-100 throttle curve.

Flight times with this setup on a 3S pack are 5:30 for basic hovering and FF. Motor temps after flight are ~ 130F, which, according to Medusa Techs, is normal for this motor. I do have a heat sink installed and the weather has been cool.

Interesting...an 11t pinion and only 5:30 flight times. I get around 8 minutes doing flips, loops, rolls with a 12t pinion using my Kong 2200mah 25c batteries and the same radix blades as you (love the radix!).

Could you get longer but are being safe? I admit, I don't time my flights very often....I usually end up landing immediately after the esc low voltage cutoff kicks in.

Skarn,

The down side to this Medusa motor is two-fold:

1. It runs very hot
2. It is AMP hungry!

Through experimentation, I have found that 5:30 is the optimum flight time. I do time all of my flights and land almost immediately after the alarm goes off. This usually results in ~ 1700-1800 mAH put back in the battery on charge.

On my stock TREX, I can get 8 minutes or more doing the same thing, but the Medusa has way more punch!

I noticed about a 1:30 increase in flight time when I went from a Medusa to a 450L (I stripped a mount screw hole and got a great deal on a lightly used 450L). I now get 8 to 8:30 with 3S2150 (FP and TP packs).

If any of you have read my thread over on HeliFreak, you will know that the Medusa motor fried on me last week. I am replacing it with a Neu 11072Y with an 11T pion and will be running 4S packs. The Neu has the same kV rating as the Medusa (3400), but is supposed to be much more efficient and run a lot cooler. I only hope that I have the proper mounting bolts and bullet connectors for it...
