I'm going to maiden my EF Extra 260 480 this weekend. My Wattmeter numbers w/ an 11x5.5E APC are WP= 261, AP=25.48, Vm 10.16 (11.1v Lipo). Motor is a Scorpion 3008-32. I currently fly a MUS as well as a ME 540 competently.

I don't have a computer radio so I set my throws to the suggested low rate setting.

Also, in all my planes I use nylon bolts for the landing gear (but rarely break them). If these happen to break, it looks difficult to get a tool to the bolt from the inside to extract. How are those who use nylon bolts getting them out once broken?

Any advice or suggestions?

I used the 4-40 by 1" nylon and they were long enough to get to with a pair o pliers from the inside.

Thanks, Jeff

Just be careful about the landing gear breaking off. They tend to fold backwards and through the wings on the 480. I have done this twice, and in the posts I have read on the 480, it seems to be an epidemic.

Thanks! Surfjeff- what kind of pliers? There's no way I can even get a pair of needlenose pliers in there. I even tried to cut a small groove in the end so I could us a small screwdriver, that didn't work out.

Trust me the 1" bolts are so long they stick up through the little holes, at least they did in mine.

Thanks, Jeff

They stick up through the holes, it's just a matter of getting a tool to the through all the framework.

I reinforced the landing gear area on mine. Inside the fuselage, I glued a piece of balsa wood stick on each side. Glued to the landing gear area and to the side of the fuselage. Used CA glue to make sure all the joints were properly glued tightly.

On the outside, I glued two popsicle sticks (they fit perfectly). Before gluing them in place, I drilled holes big enough for the bolts to fit through after I glued them in. I used epoxy. I then attached the landing gear on top of the popsicles. The bolts are long enough.

I've had several rough landings on windy days and landing gear came out intact each time. It's now quite strong.

Well, I did it. Does anybody else get "shaky hand syndrome" when maidening a plane? I advanced the throttle to about 3/4 and took off. I climbed to about 100' and started flying circles and figure 8's to trim the plane. It needed just a couple down clicks down on the elevator but several left aileron clicks to fly straight and level. I'll have to look at the wings/ailerons. Once trimmed she flew beautifully. As everyone stated, the plane goes where you point it like on rails, no surprises.

Based on what I've read, I was concerned about the landing gear/block. There was no need for worry. I was flying in probably 12-15 mph winds and at 25% throttle it simply settled down to the ground. I'm confident that once trimmed, I will be able to do a hands off landing. I didn't have to touch the ailerons or rudder, and only gave a slight input on the elevator as necessary.

I haven't charged the batts, but flew 9 mins before landing on 11.1v 2100's. I'll charge and post my results.

All in all, I'm ecstatic about the flight characteristics of this plane.

PS- I did a few aerobatics, nothing exciting but when I snap rolled to the left-holy mackeral. I did a 1 1/2 before I could correct and ended up inverted! Not an issue, flipped her back over and she just kept flying like nothing happened.

Flew again today and tried different props.

I flew w/ an 11 x 5.5 (didn't seem like enough prop, had to fly @ 3/4-full throttle) and put back 1800mah into a 2100mah battery after 9 mins.

8 mins each w/ an 11 x 7 and 12 x 6. The 11 x 7 took 1530 mah after 8 mins and the 12 x 6 took 1639 after 8 mins. It was pretty windy (15-20 mph) so it was difficult for me to tell which prop it flew better with.

Once again, even in these winds landings were a non-event.

BTW- motor is a Scorpion 3008-32.
