I will start off by saying this is my first Gas engine.
I am mounting my Zenoah 26cc Electric Ign Gas Engine on a Ultra Stick Lite 1.20. All the pictures and instructions I have been able to find for mounting this engine say to remove the aluminum mounting plate and make a pylwood mounting plate. Well that will not work for this engine because the sensor for the elctric Ign is mounted to that plate.

ALso another problem I ran into is that the alumium mounting pate bolt pattern is too wide for the stock firewall.

What I did is, made a 1/4" thick playwood plate that bolts on the existing firewall mounting nuts. I put blind nuts in this plate to bolt the aluminum engine mounting bracket onto. I also put Plywood sides on the plate that wrap around the sides of the fuselage and are bolted throught the plywood sides.
I also had to space the engine away from this plate to clear the ignition sensor mounted on the aluminum plate(shown in pic). I used some old 40 size nylon engine mounts and cut the main beams out, and drilled holes.

My concern is that the aluminum engine mounting bracket is now approximately 3/4" out from the stock firewall. I know this is a heavy engine to start with and now I moved it out even farther, I am worried this is going to make the plane way to nose heavy.

SHOULD I BE CONCERNED???

Any suggestions on another way to mount this engine??

And would you mount this engine inverted like I did??

Thanks In advance for your help

I used a different engine but I moved the servos to the rear. That may help you some with the weight.

I recommend cutting 3 to 4 inches off the front of the fuse and installing a new firewall. It balances great and even removes some weight, plus gets rid of all the extra *stuff* you've had to add. There's a very good thread called something like "Ultra Stick Lite Done Right" that will give you any info you may need. I've moved the firewall back on 2 of them running magneto zenoah's and it works very well. Also gives you a bit wider firewall to work with. Enjoy the combo, it's a sweet flying setup. The simpler the better.

I'll address the inverted installation saying it is likely fine. I mounted a G-20 inverted and have no issues with it.

Your arrangement seems quite sound to me, however cutting a suitable size hole in the center of both the new mounting plate and the existing firewall would eliminate the need for the additional stand off mounting beams. There also seems to be a fair amount of excess that could be trimmed off the sides of your new mounting plate .

While shortening the fuse would more than likely help with achieving the correct CG, it seems like a bit of an over kill to me, as possibly simply shifting things to the rear including servos might be all that is required. I would do a proper check before taking the cutting route.

I cut 4.25 inches off the nose of my US lite for my G-26 mag engine. The plane was still slightly nose heavy.

It is not overkill or even difficult to shorten the fuse like this. The US fuse built like a box, so it couldn't be easier to mod it this way.

IMO, simply placing the two servos in the tail is not going to be enough to offset the engine weight on an otherwise unmodified fuse.

Cutting 4" off the fuse of a fairly short nose design like the Stick will most likely make for a very stubby looking model. With a G26 which should provide more than adequate power the overall picture might be better served with some ballast weight in the tail, and with such a long tail moment it might not take all that much ballast to achieve a good balance.

I cut 3" off the front last night. I used the plate i had bolted on the front of the stock firewall for my new firewall. It was slightly short on the bottom so I filled it with some other wood I had. I was planning on using some fiberglass cloth to wrap around the fus and firewall but I could not find it. So instead I put some extra fillets on the insides and bracing on the back side of the firewall and some small fillets on the outsides of the firewall, and maybe al little extra epoxy just to be sure! I found the box with fiberglass cloth in it (that I was planning on using) after I was all done. Doh!!!

I basically followed this guys lead but I only went 3" back. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2273356/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm

It was a very simple modification and it makes reaching into the back side of the firewall much easier now. There was still plenty of room for the electronic ign module to fit infront of the fuel tank.

I kinda hope it comes out a little nose heavy. I prefer to use a larger tail wheel than the provided stock wheel. I fly off of some pretty rough fields and its easier on the covering on the underside of the rear stab if the back end is up higher. I have a unstearable tail wheel bracket on a older plane that would be perfect for this one. It has about a 1" dia wheel.

I hope to complete it tonight. I will post some pics later and let you know how the CG comes out.
