Hi All,
It's time to register for the 2008 Moon Shot in Cincinnati. We have less than a month to go. Please PRE REGISTER asap. Get info from the website as well.
Go to http://www.capsracing.com . Looks like we could have a good turnout if all who I think are coming actually show up. Don't forget we will have the cookout again on Sat. night and full day of practice on Friday. If you have any questions call or e-mail me anytime at askus@scottmodels.com . 513-604-6464 We will be running Ritches Brew fuel this year supplied by Randy Ritch in Texas.

We have a great group planning to come this year. So far 18 contestants. Re; 424 we will be using the short course each day. Check it out at www.capsracing.com

Tom , How do you guys run the short course for 424 and the long course for 428 on the same day???

iamtom -> RE: Moon Shot in Cincinnati (5/21/2008 4:14:09 AM)

I intend to have both pylons set up and 2 tents for the workers. The short pylon is easily set down. Our field has a crest in the middle so we have the cut lights at the top and off to the side for both classes. All we have to do is have the #1 judges walk 200 feet to the 424 tent, with their switches, and continue. There is a small number of 424 guys this year so it will only be for a couple of heats per round. We also run 2 rounds of 424 at a time. I think the short course is better suited to 424.
We will see.

Hey Tom, I agree. Last weekend at Whittier was the first time I've flown the short course and I felt it made 424 a bit more exciting. For me, no replacement for the higher speeds of 428, but still an improvement over the long course.

We have been running the short course (475 feet) for many years and it works great. Makes for some nice tight races and although slower, still a lot of fun.

PylonDave -> RE: Moon Shot in Cincinnati (5/21/2008 11:57:03 PM)

Would it work to erect a fouth pylon for 424 at 475 ft, and have the #1 cut judges stay at the long course position. They would be at an angle for the 424 heats , but it would be the same for everyone. They would trigger the turn button when the plane passes the pylon from thier perspective.
what do you think???

daven -> RE: Moon Shot in Cincinnati (5/22/2008 2:19:48 AM)

I don't think you would be at the right angle to accurately judge the pylon.

iamtom -> RE: Moon Shot in Cincinnati (5/22/2008 1:23:39 PM)

Pylon dave,
If you did that the 424 guys would have to go much farther to get a light. If the judges were at the 424 pylon the 428 guys would be setting new records as they would be flying a much shorter course. This is why the placement of the judges at all 3 pylons is so important. Some fields are suspect because these positions are merely a guess as to the position. In all 3 cases the closer to the start finish line the judges are the shorter the course gets.

Actually less Tom. Just fly to the left of the pylon[:)] To the right of the pylon your right[:D] Won't work Dave the judges have to be on a line to the #1 pylon that is 90 deg to the course or all bets are off[:(].

Yes I see your point denis At the basin planes flying to the left of the pylon could run a shorter course to the right they would have to go farther. At whitteir it would be just the opposite. Your right it won't work!!

Sure would be nice to be able to run the short course for 424 on the same day as 428 or Q40. Its a lot more fun that way!!
