Hey Guys I need some help please.

I bought a second E Flite 400 used for a back up Heli to my new on. It had a few problems, servos and dry joint blade grips, no shims, just little stuff and the receiver tx was missing. I rebuilt what was needed and bought a new receiver tx and reassembled. I must note to you that all repairs and re-wiring the new receiving tx were made and matched against my new 30 day old 400 that came from Boom-Town. I have set them both up for the time being on "one model type" in my DX6i so I could see the reactions on both Heli's at the same moment to ensure my repairs were done right. All looked good on the bench and tested well. I installed a battery and started to power up the motor. At that moment the Heli started spinning under the rotor blades on the floor 360 degrees and fast! I attempted to stop the rotation with counter left Rudd. Sometimes it would stop and hold it or.......it would start spinning 360 degrees the other way. I double checked the the rudder and tail blades and found no issues. I am thinking there might be a Gyro issue. But before I take the Gyro off my new 400 and install on the used one I thought I would ask for your input.

Thanks JPee

I'm assuming from your post that your are trying to use the same "model memory slot" on the same DX6i Tx. If this is the case try creating a new model in your Tx for your second B400 and set it up identical to your first setup. Usually, when you bind a new Rx to a Spektrum Tx, it erases the model that is currently in that slot. There are also some Spektrum Rx's that won't allow you to bind 2 to 1 Tx model (model match). Another point to consider is the gyro feature in the Tx. I'm not positive about the DX6i, but in the DX7 you can control the gyro gain from the Tx, not just the gain screw on the gyro. If your initial setups were erased when binding the new Rx, the gyro feature would have been turned off.

If that is not the case, try adjusting your gyro gain in the Tx.

Hope this helps.

First remove power to motor.

Setup tail in normal mode(see helifreak/finless videos). Once squared away. set back to heading hold, does tail move in the proper direction when you move the rudder? ok how about heading hold?

Next check your pitch curves, you may have them so high that the gyro cannot account for the large changes, I had the same problem with Trex.

Next check pitch in idle up, does center stick yield flat blades? 0 pitch? Ok how about high and low stick?

not sure if this will help but I'm sure it can't hurt to run through this once more, make sure to turn back to regular from idle up and check pitch there too.

sounds gain related. 1st thing 1st... belt tension? is it correct? Should be able to push belt 1/2 way to the other belt.

As im reading the manual in gyro menu what are your settings for 0 and 1.

If 1 is the heading hold mode. start at a gain of say 55 and go up. when in flight make a rudder input and watch for it to respond. if its not twitchy, increase the gain. Keep increasing it until it gets twitchy and then back it down. Mine is currently 67 but I am going to make adjustments tomorrow.

From the sound of it, that is how my heli acts when in normal (non-heading hold). At least thats what Im thinking.

What someone told me is to make adjustments to the linkage and get it to where it will lift up in non heading hold mode without spinning, then when you have it in gyro mode it makes it easier for the gyro to keep up. Not sure if thats true or not because I can't get mine to life up in not heading hold without spinning fast to the left. I guess I am going to try what I am tell you and then go from there.

Hey thanks Dart, Yoda, and Casey for the input.

I was getting ready to take your suggestions to application when I found that one of the blades on this "used" was floating free. Yes I had checked it before flight! I found that the previous owner used the the small servo black screws to join the linkage rods to the blade grip. As these screw are to small the linkage arm came off when I started my warm up leaving the blade to float wildly. After more investigation I found he had use CA to fill in loose or stripped screw holes on servo's and other linkages. So now I will take on the task of what I should have done in the first place and not trust anyones work but my own and go through this "used" heli from to back.
Should this blade grip fix not stop the spinning then it is on to your suggestions!

Thanks again for your support.

I hate to say I told you so but yeah check everything before you fly, and MAKE sure you're level and 90 everything.

There are so many of those links you have to pretty much go over each, it's really something to do each flight not just in the shop.

DrunkYoda is right about doing preflight checks. I have done them since I got my Belt CP and I have never had a mechanical failure. And probably saved a lot of money from a potential crash or hurting me or someone else.
