So apparently fsone is not compatible with certain sound cards, and my motherboard happens to have one of the incompatible ones built in. So what cards ARE compatible? They dont tell you on the website.

What is the symptom? No sound or bad sound, etc...

Did you look at the InertiaSoft faq? Apparently some "sound issues" can be fixed by trying different hardware acceleration settings. It's explained below:
http://www.inertiasoft.com/fsonefaq/#Q1014-FS1

My sound card is integrated in my mobo, so I can't suggest a separate card that works, but my mobo has an NVidia chipset for sound.

Oh and the standard advise: "make sure your sound card driver is up-to-date".

Mine is an nvidia built into the mobo too. I get only idle and full throttle sounds. No inbetween. I have adjusted the acceleration settings as per the faq and at the lowest setting I get a variety of different engine sounds although the transitions between the different throttle settings are not smooth. The trouble is with the hardware acceleration adjusted to none, all other windows sounds are affected.

Do you mean turning down the volume setting within fsone?

NCBrit: I don't know whether many people have broken sound in fsone, but I'm sure it's the exception rather than a rule. The quality and compatibility of integrated sound is tied to how it is integrated with the mobo and what mobo. If I was in your situation I would just buy a new or used sound card (disable the integrated one in the hardware profile before installing). If you have a computer store with used equipment you could get one super cheap. If you were to buy a new one, would be wise to confirm that you could return it if it's not compatible.

I take it that you're aware that the drivers for your integrated sound could well be bundled with the chipset drivers for your mobo... in case you've been wondering where to look for updates for that.
