Except there is no provision for us to obtain a waiver. That doesn't mean that we can't apply for one, just that they can turn it down because there is no requirement for a waiver.

Here is a example where model airplanes are looked as a security threat by the FAA.

http://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_8_8731.html

See section C.

This is no different than it has been for the past 40 or so years when there is a launch at the Cape.

I've been a member of a local club for 5 or 6 years and this is the first time its been brought to the clubs attention because of a member who was
in the know.

I had started to say I didnt see model aircraft in the notice but I had overlooked
them, Anyhow since the FAA as far as I know didnt notify the AMA I dont think
they are really that concerned about models.

I think as model aircraft become larger and faster and in general more advanced
technology wise we may begain to some regulation on some but not all models.

Not all models. However, when you see a bunch of YouTube videos showing willful, immature, and childish behavior with electric parkflyers (for example: "*&^% owned by a model airplane" ), something has to give eventually. Why are more and more munincipalities getting closed off to all RC? Boats, cars, KITES even! Some credit should be given to those who love to argue the superiority of their EEEEEE-Flite park foamie and the "why should I join a club or get an instructor" attitude. Just open the box, and fly it. Any darn place you please, and it matters not that you buzzed the next door neighbor, who has nothing better to do than to blame the local RC club that's three miles down the road. Who's going to prevent someone who's already careless enough with a Firebird from purchasing an even bigger Hobbico Electristar?

I hate to say this, but: Soccer moms out-number us, 10 to 1 at least!

Yea…people…what are we going to do about em.

Today on the way to work there were kids playing baseball in the freeway…a guy jumping off a building attempting to do some hang-gliding and at lunch time there was some guys jumping four wheelers over a culvert in a parking lot risking injury to motorist entering and exiting. But what was worse yet, there was a guy flying a slow stick in the park!!! Almost hit a tree and tore a leaf off…my goodness what is the world coming to. Someone needs to come up with the mother of all laws…You can’t do anything unless you say “mother may I” and wait for a response.

From the other thread

quote:

No one is required to obtain authority for most controled airspace. Only TCA's etc. I think you need to look up the definition of controlled airspace.

Like I said and will say again, of course you can fly your model airplanes in controlled airspace, however you need to obtain authority first.

Hopefully that puts that discussion to bed.
