After waiting for what seems like decades for the 2.4 technology world to shake out the bugs it looks like it has finally matured so I decided to do a little radio upgrade on my 12FG before I fly. I’m not an early adopter!

I don’t think the HS (High Speed) series receivers have the now famous Futaba heat problem but I’ll be mounting them on foam stand offs anyhow.

The r6008HS that I’ll be using in the Speeda is incredibly tiny. Ended up with one r6014HS and three r6008HS. The HS feature with digital servos is pretty impressive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPSQYt4-om0 I will need to relocate my analog throttle and retract servo to the analog channels 7 and 8.

Plan on keeping my Series 77 Kraft 7C and Futaba 9C Super on 72.

To be continued…

Hi,

I use Futaba R6014HS since some years back. It has worked without any problem at all. I have used mostly Fuataba BLS153 (brushless digital) servos with it. It is good you have left room under the receiver for heat from the receiver to be able to flow away. When I read the Futaba mounting instructions for the R6014HS for the first time it was many new things to keep in mind that you do not do with older type receivers.

/Bo

Thanks for the input. Atlanta gets very hot in the summer so having a receiver that is heat sensitive would be a very bad thing.

The r6008HS installation. Used retract gear airline glued to the former to hold the antennas in place at 90 degrees and soft latex tubing at the receiver end.

Test flew my 12FG on 2.4 and one of the r6008HSs and all went well. Should be ready for the Speeda soon!

Well, I must take a moment to say that I took a look at a couple of you build threads. You are a very accomplished builder Mike! Great work. I'm loving all the Pictures & good info on the Blue Angel & Speeda. I would really like a set of plans for each. I need to get the location of the landing gear and some other little details. I can pay you to copy and ship them. Email me Mike if you can help me out.

Don,

Thanks for the nice comments. I understand that you have the Blue Angel plan but still need the Speeda plan. The Speeda plan is a single 11 X 17 sheet and mine has a few small holes in it. I’ll see if there is a way I can get it scanned. I can scan it into two pages if you have a way to join them.

Received my FK SBA Speeda short kit from Don Carlson (email rcaiir@gmail.com ) and frequent flyer on RCU. Ordered it April 20th and the shipping took a week from California to Atlanta. Don was a bit backed up with orders that added a few days to the process.

The fuselage is epoxy from West Systems. The fuselage looks like a faithful reproduction of the original Speeda and includes the lower fuselage piece. The glass work looks pretty good and is light but there is one fairly large surface air bubble that can be easily filled (see pic). It’s nice not to have the original FK formers installed adding a lot of flexability to the engine and gear install. The other plus is that the front gear area and engine area are not cut out like the FK kit providing more flexibility for the engine and gear installation.

The foam wing and stab are excellent and are cut all the way to the trailing edge offering the option to use foam ailerons and elevators. Swept tapered wings are very hard to cut and these are super!

The FK SBA Speeda is a very rare kit and it is really nice to have one that is in epoxy and light. The kit is a reasonable price and very much the worth the money.

Very nice Mike. For some reason I haven't gotten around to ordering the same. I need to quit procrastinating.

Mike,

What about that flight report on SBA 60 Speeda #-1? Have you had a chance to fly it yet?

Ron
