I went to Fort Derussy museum in Hawaii today and got some pictures of the two tanks they have on display. I figured I'd share them with you guys. I drove by the place a bunch of times from the distance but had never stopped before. From the road the Japanese tank kinda looked like a 38t so I talked the wife in to going today so I could get a closer look at the "38t". But as we walked up the path I realized it wasn't no where near a 38t so I was a little disappointed but still an interesting tank none the less.

Thanks for sharing, our fellow tanker Pattoncommander is sure to like those shots! The Japanese tank reminds me of the ones at the Nimitz museum in Fredericksburg, Texas. Those weren't as nice, they were rusty and had 75mm holes in them!

Thanks for the pics. Just wondering what the Japanese tank would have been used for. Certainly not engaging other tanks, right? Anti-personell?

I looked it up in Tanks and Armoured Vehicles of WWII by Jan Surmondt. It seems it's a Type 95 light tank. Here's what the book said. " The Type 95, know as the HA-GO, was developed in the early 1930's to meet the requirements of the Japanese Army at the time. When production ceased in 1943, over 1100 had been built. The major drawback of the vehicle was that the commander had to operate the gun in addition to his normal duties, which impeded combat effectiveness. While this was acceptable when faced with infantry in Manchuria, it proved disastrous when up against American armour in the later years of the war. Despite later upgunning, the tank's poor armour and lack of firepower ensured that it was wholly inadequate." It had a 37mm main gun by the way. I really wouldn't be surprised if this thing was used to engage pretty much anything, given the mentality of the Japanese military at that time.
