Help:: Due to a crankshaft breaking and a bad rear bearing, both are being replaced. There is no information about the installation of the cam when rebuilding the engine in the manufactures information sheets and their response is to just send it to them for repairs. I would rather do my own work!!! Anybody done this already? Thanks in advance.

Ok Here is some updated information. Problem solved. The magnum 120fs cam has the timing mark (read Small drilled indentation) from the center line of the cam shaft straight down at the 180 degree point (If the zero point is at the top). This is with the piston at top dead center with both valves closed on the firing stroke.

Engine ran fanstastic.

Sorry I don't have any specific info on the Magnum but...
It's designed after the OS and I done both OS and YS timing and they set their timing mark on the cam straight up when the piston is TDC.

Good Luck!

On most every 4-stroke the best way to tell if your cam is installed right is (that is, it's timed correctly) is to put the piston up at Top Dead Center when both valves are open (the overlap period). At TDC both valves should be open the same amount. Also, turn the crank in the normal direction of rotation until the exhaust valve is just opening. The piston should be about 100 degrees past TDC. If you are off just one tooth on the cam you should find the valve timing is way off from this.
