I know they're out there!

I couldn't find a computer power supply with enough amperage to make one. Radio shack here is stoopidly expensive.

There should be many on e-bay and for your batts , even an old one for free should do a nice job. I got a couple of old clunkers that my computer guy gave me for free and they both do about half of what the rating (200watt) is 80-100 watts.

How much amperage do you need? A pc power supply should do it.

I saw this on the website:

This is a Compact Switching 12V, 7A Power Supply.
***********This item can NOT be used as a power supply for the************ ********* Great Planes TRITON series or the DuraTrax ICE charger ************ ********* It does not meet these chargers' current requirements **************

Doesn't this mean I need more than 7A???

No, you will only need about 3-4 amps.

guver you are incorrect, these chargers are 12v DC, the whole system is DC, if the charger is 7A it needs at least a 7A power supply, if its a 10A charger it needs more than 10A.

And that's granted if the charger is 100% efficient which it's doubtful there is one in existence. If you have an Ice I'd recommend getting a 15A power supply, my recommendation would be a Pyramid PSV200 it's a nice $50 20A, I have the 30A model it's been great.

Also original poster I'm not sure what you meant by you couldn't find a computer power supply with enough amperage, before I got my Pyramid 30A I ran an old Antec 350w power supply (low wattage by todays computing standards) and it was rated at 12v 18A which would be MORE than enough to power an Ice.

I just found a pile of used computer power supplies and looked at the outputs - they were like 5v/1.5a, 12v/3a, etc.

The power requirement must be figured in total power (watts) and the only time the current required matches the current delivered is when the input and output voltage is the same (chargeing an 8 cell NI or 3S lipo)

If a charger is charging a 4 volt battery at 7 amps it only needs less than 3 amps supplied by a 12 volt ps , yet if it happens to be chargeing a 40 volt battery then it'll need over 20 amps suplied by a 12 volt ps.

We really haven't mentioned a specific charger, but in the case of an ice charger the same holds true. The power input is determined by the power output or the specific chargeing job you are doing.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817709011 12V@25A $19.99 there are a zillion p/c supplies that produce huge power these days However the pyrmid supplies are regulated @ 13.8 volts tweeking a pc supply to get over 12v can involve a little soldering some p/c supplies can output 11.8v without a 10 watt resistor wired into the 5v circuit.

Depending on what you call cheap. Look at this one if you dont want to build one from a computer power supply.

Got a 12 v power supply from Fry's.com. has a 3amp output. I use it along with a hobbico quick field charger, and so far no issues. Costs $ 40. Hope this helps.
