hi. i just bought a belt-cp. with a 2100mah battery, my flight times are only about 7 minutes? the entire 7 minutes is just spent hovering, since i'm just learning and not comfortable actually flying it around yet. is this normal? i expected longer run times.....

also, even with lots of right trim, the heli wants to yaw to the left. what is the fix for this?

i bought this used from a friend and everything on it is stock except the speedcontroller, which is an electrifly 25amp, and t-rex blades.
he helped me set it up. but i'm totally new to this so any advice would greatly be appreciated.

7 min flight times are ok, you can get a bigger battery but I wouldn't put anything larger than 2600mah on it.

flight times depend on head speed, battery and your throttle/pitch curves. you can play around with the two knobs on top to tweek it but really I doubt you'd get that much more time.

Is there a reason you expected longer flight times? Did you research electric helis before you bought it?

Use a 9 t pinion. It's good for another 2 minutes. Also 295 blades but it will be a little less stable(good practice)

i'm using my spektrum dx-7, not the stock radio. i expected longer flight times based on the website. they claim 20minutes, which i knew was an exageration, but i thought maybe about 10 minutes? especially b/c all i was doing was hovering in one place.....

my 34 oz plane could probably hover at least as long on the same battery pack! =)

I use the esky 1800 battery and have stock pinion stock motor with my head speed around 1980 to 2000 rpm's and i fly for 6 to 7 min.

whoever was claiming 20 minutes is full of it. you're not going to find any electric heli that can fly that long.

anyway, it doesnt matter. i just wanted to make sure that 7 minutes was normal.

on another note, how much free-play (if any) is there supposed to be in the main shaft? when i turn the head by hand, there is a small amount of free play before there is any resistance. maybe around 7-10 degrees. is this normal? i'm not sure if it's related, but when i fly, it doesnt seem to want to maintain altitude. adding in a little bit of throttle stick makes it go up and just decreasing throtle stick even just one click makes it decend. feels as though a small amount of decrease in throttle makes it drop a lot.

here is the specs from the esky website, http://www.twf-sz.com/english/products.asp?prodid=0156, as you see it says nothing about the flight times. That is blatant false advertising by nitroplanes. As to the flight altitude, take the clicking out as it makes it difficult to hover. Open the back of the transmitter and on that stick you'll see a notched metal piece which goes into a gear, just turn the metal piece around so that you still have some tension but no notchiness.

i dont want to mess with my transmitter b/c i use it mostly for planes.

but i'm not concerned about the racheting throttle stick. my main concern is whether it's normal to have free-play in the main shaft. (i can turn the rotor head about 7 degrees before the main gear "catches" and starts to turn. i'm thinking this is the reason for the sluggishness of the throttle response/ lag time in stick input and altitude change?

I fly for 8 minutes with mild flying. I use a 2170mAh Flight Power battery, 35A align ESC, and 320mm Carbon Blades. I also use the stock motor and pinion with the metal head and tail assembly. I could do just hovering for 9.5 minutes, but I would be getting really close to 80% discharge.

The free play is normal. That is your one-way-bearing engaging. By the way the world record for an electric is 1 hr 10 mins and 50 seconds. [;)]

well that's strange I get about 14~18 minutes out of my 1800mah and about 20mins out of 2250's when they are fully charged.

I think your friend may have given you a battery with a crippled cell, ask him how many charges he's done with what charger. You gotta give it a slow charger every 2 runs with high speed charging. I compltely destroyed 1 lipo not doing that. It's a 2200mah and flight time is like 10 minutes which is very bad, I charged it with 0.30A rate to full up and it gave about 19 minutes flight time.

Also, your payload/amount of throttle u input matters in flight. For example, my heli lifts off at 40% throttle and hovers at about 35%. throttle and that gives me about 15 minutes at least. If your heli needs about 60% throttle to lift off and 55% to hover , that means your pitch may be too negative or you got too heavy payload. It's always good to have them just below the 50's than higher.

i wouldn't suggest lift off at 40% and hover at 35%. thats too low of headspeed. low head speed is sluggish. it should be 60% liftoff. check out FINLESS videos on helifreak.

I use the stock battery 1800mah and it last for about 12- 15mins, it depends on how ur flying and what not but hovering should last longer. Also i dont know much about batteries but i just use the stock blance charger every time. I stop flying when in flight the heli starts to loose power then i bring it sraight down. I dont have a voltage tester so i have no idea how much im draining it either but it seems to be all good.

The movement before the one way bearing kicks in is normal. U might want to set ur pitch at zero at half throttle and go from there. I set it at half and turn the pitch knob clock wise nearly as far as it goes.

I use normal mode to lift off and fly with idle 1. If you were just to gently fly around with normal mode or a mild idle up. you can get 10 minutes of solid flying. I don't believe 20 minutes on any Belt. You may think it is 20 minutes but I have a timer that activates when the throttle is on and 7-9 minutes with some idle up is the best I can get on 2200 MAH 3S's. Go to Hobby City, I picked up two cheap LiPo tools for like $9 shipped. One is an onboard monitor that monitors each cell. Two LEDs, one green and one red for each. They Leds shift from green, to green/red/ to all bright red. Good true indicator of what the pack is experiencing. I also picked up a voltage checker for 3S and it is very accurate as measured against a DVM. 9$ shipped for both and got here in 11 days

Look guys I still cant belive your getting 19 min. of flight time it must be nothing more then a hover ,I fly 6.5 to 7 min. no 3d but it is fast flight, if i fly till i can sense a loss of power then I drained my battery to much.no more then 6.5 to 7 min for me.

Time the motor run time, not your session with landings and rest and tinkering etc. Actual "Fly" time is never more than 10 minutes.

i usually run my batteries down to 11.1volts (no load). yesterday, i timed myself and got 8minutes, 57seconds. battery voltage was 10.9 on a skyshark pack 2100mah. almost the entire time was hovering. i may have landed maybe 3 times, but got back up right away. i wouldnt recommend discharging them any lower than 10.9volts unless you want to damage your packs.

i'd like to see video of anyone who's getting 15 minutes (or more) on a 2100mah pack.

i would put it up with my 2250mah but my Belt-CP is in a very ugly situation and the camera is dead. I usually discharge down to about 9.6V because I have a charger that can always fix it. That gives me over 16 minutes of hovering with about 2 short landing for testing the servos.
If I do something more than just hovering the flight time decreases very quickly For exmaple I put 3d up and go forward at a high speed, then back up at 100% throttle and maximum forward input which makes the heli very very unstable and which I benefit from, I was told to do that from somewhere if I wanetd a good hovering and wind resisting skills. Now if I do that about 5 times, the flight time decreases right down to 12 or less minutes.

Oh yes and I only got 20 mins flight twice and that was when the Li-ION charger pushed the battery over 13 V [I didn't know it was bad till I checked the voltage on the third battery]

See guys your talking about hovering ,your flight times will incress when you hover in normal mode but when your in stunts mode ( witch I use once I get off the ground) flight times are way shorter, im lucky to get 6 to 7 min. abd i never use the whole 80% i only put back around 900 to 1090 mah.
