Hey guys! My 9 year old is flyin a extra 300 .60 size with a OS 91 4 banger on it. I have the buddy boxxes going fine but the prob is the throttle linkages. The throttles in the two tx's vary a little and are causing me a positioning prob. Every time he hammers down on the throttle, it shifts the arm at the carb. the single screw used to position the arm slips. I am wondering if a person could mount a push-pull arm on the motor mount, throttle pushrod would mount on push-pull arm, then link from the arm to the carb. Think this will allow more adjustment? I've seen a pic of this before but remember the basic size of the set up. Thanks for any input, it sure would help stop his throttle from becoming an engine kill

If I understand you correctly the throttle reverses when using a buddy box and kills the engine?
If this is the case you can adjust it out if you have a programmable transmitter by reversing the throttle. If it is not a programmable transmitter there usually is four switches on the radio that you can use to reverse the channels.

If it adjustment you are looking for because the engine is too close to the firewall then you can try using http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXD925&P=0 these on each end of the throttle cable

As rcuman said, check the settings on the slave unit. With the throtal setup I use a a linkage setup of the engine mount. (see photo)

Cheers

I do a fair amount of buddy box training and haven't seen a guy show up with a model that needed to be dinked to solve your problem, but have adjusted a BUNCH of TXs to get their throws to match.

Put both TXs' throttles to WOT. Flip the trainer switch and watch the carb. Adjust the buddy box throttle throw in the buddybox TX so WOT doesn't move the carb when the trainer switch gives the buddybox control. Now put both TXs' throttles on idle and do that direction on the buddy box.

BTW, do the same test for the other functions. Example.... Both of you hold full left aileron. Now flip the trainer switch back and forth. If the aileron's change trim...... same solution as above.

BTW, this is only slightly off topic but is worth pondering.

It's always a good idea after you've trimmed out a new model and got her flying with wings level and straight and level and no yaw....... You've got clicks of trim settings all over the place. Put the trim into the airplane. Take all those clicks out of the TX by adjusting the pushrods. It's worth the effort to have no trim in the box. It's also worth it to NOT use the TX to assume new centers for the servos, something people often do to keep from having to put the trim into the airplane.

Computer radios often cause people constant problems with all their labor saving tricks.

The proper way to setup buddy boxxes has been a pain in the a#$ to find. I've been flyin for 2.5 years and never learned on buddy boxes so they were kind of a foriegn setup last fall. Plus, the first four stroke we(me and my son) have owned is in that plane. lots of new hurdles i guess. As the Ghost's pic shows, that is the kind of linkage setup i saw in some tip section. I pondered if that would give me the adjustment i was needing or if it's in the tx's. I haven't tried setting the tx's up like Da Rock suggests so i'll start there. And the reversing isn't the prob, it's just gettin the setup right in the radios i think. And it is a habit of mine to trim it out and then make the adjustments on the bird till trims are centered so there's no remembering"what click " it was on. I really appreciate the advice guys, this stuff is new to me but it's worth the time to learn it because the time this affords me with my son is worth so much more. I'll try it guys and see if the new way to setup is the ticket!! Thanks again and anymore buddy bos suggestions are always welcome. Just got those landing taught and he's off!!
