Which kit did you find to be better quality/ease of assembly the HK or EXI?

Status: offline 		They are both about the same , cause they are exact clones of the Trex, I got the $19.00 Hk kit it had all plastic head parts, which has since bit the dust and I put a clone all metal head on it. The EXI was part metal and Plastic on the head assembly. The EXI screws were phillips head screws and the HK came with Hex head screws, I pefer the Hex head screws but both are of inferior metal and the heads will strip easy. EXI offered several versions of the V2 450 till the pro 450 came out they only offer the plastic version now, HK still offers the cheap version V2 as well as an alloy version, Parts are easy to get on ebay for the V2, but most are from china etc, which will take a while to get, eheli still sells parts , cost a little more but you'll get quicker. PS the metal frame is much better that the fiberglass or carbon fiber, Cause till you stop crashing , most of the time you can bend the metal frame back in place instead of having to replace it.

Thanks Mike. I had read that the screws are garbage so I was considering replacing with T-Rex screws on whichever kit I go with. The EXI has metal frame and the HK is CF so I'm leaning towards the EXI for the reasons you mentioned.

Status: offline 		I did not have screw issues with the pro version. The Pro frame uses 2mm hex instead of 1.5mm hex which strips easier if you don't have a good Hex driver.
The 1.5mm heads (even on Align) will strip way too easy. I just worked on a friends Align 500 and 5 of the 1.5mm button heads were stripped and you have to take a dremmel then make it a slotted screw to get them out.


Harbor freight has a great screwdriver set with a phillips #1 and #0 screwdriver that works best on the EXI kits.

Thanks for the link. That heli looks very similar to the EXI V2 here. Unfortunately, shipping cost nearly as much as the heli itself...LOL

The EXI has an aluminum frame....do you think that will be durable enough for a newbie?

Status: offline 		Yep, I crashed the HK 2 or 3 times that had the aluminum frame and I just bent it back in place. it usually goes sideways, but then again it depends how hard you go in, ;-) all the parts are cheap even the frames , I would stay away from the carbon , there $$ until you get good and haven't moved up. One thing I found out is the 450 unless set up good can be a hand full, Its quick, & fast , so make sure you set it up right.

Well, what you really need to do is set your blade pitch to about +1 at 0 throttle which may be between 40-50 on P1 pitch. I'll explain in a sec....

First let's look at throttle curves:

NOR Throttle Curves

1. Position L, Low Stick = 0% power
2. Position 2, Quarter Stick = 25% power
3. Position 3, Mid Stick = 55% power
4. Position 4, ¾ Stick = 70% power
5. Position H, Full Stick = 85% power

Now on to Pitch Curves....

You must use a pitch gauge to check the actual pitch angles after
making the pitch curve changes and not rely on the radio percentage values since the
actual pitch settings from the factory can be different between each helicopter they flight
test and set up.

You must confirm the pitch range with a pitch gauge – don’t rely on percentage
values!

EXI 450 EXAMPLE NOR Pitch Curve

1. Position L, Low Stick = 45% (+1 degrees of pitch)
2. Position 2, Quarter Stick = 50% (+3 degrees of pitch)
3. Position 3, Mid Stick Hover = 50% (+3 degrees of pitch)
4. Position 4, ¾ Stick = 65% (+6 degrees of pitch)
5. Position H, Full Stick = 70% (+7 degrees of pitch)

But again check these with a pitch gauge!!!

just got my exi 450 about a week ago
was very impressed by it . I ordered the motor sevros and radio and recerver that xhely recomended
Im going to get the battery mext mounth . being on a fixed budget because of reiterment  I cant spent to much
at once . Is there any advise any can offer ? This is the first heli I have ever built . I had a cheap one I bought 
and crashed ,got working agine , liked it so I thought what the heck I will try going this rought to  see if realy like it 
any advise LOL?
